The Customer Service Division within the Utilities department is seeking a highly qualified individual to fill the position of ” Cashier” . Job Description General Functions Collects payments and issues receipts for fees and charges based on established rate schedule. Work requires extensive public contact. This is responsible clerical work that requires accuracy and attention to detail. An employee in a position allocated to this classification uses a computer equipped with a cash drawer to receive and record payments made by the public. Work is performed under the supervision of an Office Supervisor or other assigned supervisor within the work unit and is reviewed through observation, audit of records and work performance. Representative Duties/Assignments Processes payments of cash, checks, or credit/debit cards and issues receipts Operates cash drawer and makes change as necessary. Observes Office Supervisor as payments received are counted and cash drawer balanced daily. May operate electronic adding machine or calculator. Performs extensive payment research to correct payment events. Processes returned payments and accesses fees if applicable. Performs related work as required. Responds professionally and courteously to customer inquiries in person, by phone, and in writing regarding account status, billing issues, or payment options. Minimum Qualifications Graduation from high school or equivalent and three (3) years of progressively responsible experience involving public contact in cash handling, issuing receipts and maintaining related records. Preferences Bilingual – Fluent in English and Spanish (written and verbal) is strongly preferred Strong banking and retail cashier experience Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, especially Outlook, Word, and Excel.

Salary Information Pay Grade:
010 – From $17.57 to $19.55
