Cashier/Greeter Thrift on Purpose 5218 East Trindle Road, Mechanicsburg, PA 17050

OVERVIEW:

The Cashier/Greeter is responsible for providing excellent customer service from the moment guests arrive to when they complete their purchases. They warmly and promptly welcome and acknowledge guests, are attentive to customer needs, assist with locating items, operate the POS cash register, and ensure a positive overall experience for Thrift on Purpose customers. This person is responsible to the Shop Manager and relates to shop volunteers and staff.

THE CASHIER/GREETER IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE FUNCTIONS BELOW, IN ADDITION TO OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED

Presents a strong commitment to customer service ensuring customers have a positive shopping experience Approaches all customers in an outgoing and friendly manner and resolves customer issues promptly and professionally Greets each customer as they come in the door and communicates sales as needed When not directly ringing up product, Straightens and dusts shelves and spot cleans floor in the immediate area Keeps the checkout area tidy, sanitized, and well stocked Communicates as check out supplies are running low Stays up to date on products available, advertised sales, and donation hours and policy Runs cash register duties (scans items, rings up sales, sells gift cards, and collects payment from customers, bags and/or wraps customers’ purchases as necessary) Communicates effectively with customers, shop associates, and volunteers. Contributes to positive morale and teamwork by maintaining a positive attitude and engagement. Performs opening and closing shop tasks as assigned Complies with federal, state and local laws governing shop operation. Ensures safety, sanitation, proper use, and maintenance of facilities and equipment. Communicates expectations, investigates complaints, and performs physical inspections to ensure compliance with government regulations and company standards. Maintains established security procedures to protect associates, customers, and company assets.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Marketing/merchandising ability and customer service skills Experience in thrift shop operations preferred Excellent communication and relation building skills Computer skills preferred Basic math skills required Willingness to work as a team with the shop managers and volunteers Knowledge of MCC preferred Standing for extended periods and walking for short periods of time are required. This position uses standard office equipment, requires close visual acuity, frequent typing, both hearing and talking abilities, and the ability to lift and move objects up to 30 pounds frequently and up to 50 pounds occasionally. Additionally, the ability to climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, push, pull, finger, grasp, and feel objects of varying textures and size is frequently required. To perform this job successfully, the Cashier/Greeter must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily with or without an accommodation. The listed actions above are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required. High school education or general education degree (GED) and two (2) years of customer service and/or cashiering preferred.

POSITION DETAILS

Part time (10-25 hours per week) Hourly pay ranges from $10-$12/hour depending on experience Scheduling Mondays through Saturdays with hours falling between 9:30 am and 6:30 pm Thrift on Purpose is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
