Our Thrift Stores play a critical role in supporting this mission by providing affordable clothing and household items to our community and generating revenue to fund our programs and services. As part of our Thrift Store team, you’ll work alongside a passionate group committed to providing excellent customer service while supporting the community.
Position Summary:
The Thrift Store Cashier and Sorter is a key player in ensuring a positive shopping experience for our customers. You’ll operate the cash register, assist customers, maintain an orderly sales floor, and help sort and process donations. This hands-on role is essential in keeping our stores running smoothly and helping us support the programs and services of NNH.

What You’ll Do:
Operate the cash register and process cash and credit card payments quickly and accurately. Greet and assist customers in a friendly, professional manner, offering help with merchandise and answering questions. Receive and sort donations, selecting high-quality items for the sales floor and preparing other items for recycling. Maintain a clean and organized sales floor—straightening merchandise, color-coding racks, and ensuring displays are neat. Monitor the front door and maintain a presence near the register to ensure a secure environment. Move donations, recyclables, and trash to designated areas as needed. Support other cashier and sorting duties as assigned and outlined in store policies and procedures. What You Bring to the
Table:
High school diploma or equivalent At least 1 year of cashier experience Previous customer service experience Ability to communicate calmly and clearly with diverse groups of people Patience and empathy when working with people from all socio-economic backgrounds Ability to take initiative, work independently, and notice tasks that need to be done Comfortable handling cash and making quick, accurate change Willingness to work cooperatively with all agency staff Commitment to NNH’s mission and values:

Able to stand for long periods (up to 6-8 hours per shift) Able to stoop, bend, lift, push, and pull up to—and sometimes over—50 pounds Near constant movement of arms and legs required Dexterity to grip bags, boxes, and forms of payment (cash, coin, credit card) Must be able to handle donations that may contain dust or mold Vision and hearing necessary to assist customers, operate POS systems, and follow instructions
Equipment/Technology:
Must be able to use a computer and point-of-sale (POS) systems Ability to learn and adapt to new software
Work Schedule:
10 -15 hours Monday through Saturday | Store hours are 9:30 a.m. – 6:15 p.m. Schedules are prepared monthly and provided at least one week in advance Flexible scheduling available based on staffing needs and availability
