Job Description:

Florida Rising is seeking an Organizer who wants to build and strengthen the base in marginalized communities in counties across Florida. The Organizer is responsible for implementing plans to engage constituents in Florida Rising activities, events, training, and capacity building. The County Organizer will be responsible for assisting in the development and implementation of base building programs and community campaigns. The incumbent will assist in implementing the Florida Rising organizing model centered on the development of grassroots leaders. This position reports to the Regional Lead Organizer.

Primary Responsibilities:

Build community organizing campaigns, focused on organizational priorities, and composed of directly impacted community members Identify leaders and move them to community campaigns, and support their development. Organize and facilitate political education opportunities for member leaders’ development. Organize and facilitate forums to recruit Florida Rising leaders, activists, members and volunteers. Build a base of grassroots leaders in support of Florida Rising campaigns. Participate in meetings/calls/forums on behalf of Florida Rising. Canvass communities at minimum 2 to 3 times per week in the late afternoon to evening hours. Develop campaign committees made of community members

Qualifications and Experience:

Applicant must share a commitment to the organization’s mission. Self-motivated, ability to take initiative and ability to manage multiple projects. Ability to work independently, yet collaboratively, according to goals of the organization. Ability to interact with and have understanding of persons of various social, cultural, economic, and educational backgrounds. Ability to problem solve with other regional organizers to ensure effective organizing teams Ability to work well as part of a team and contribute to our diverse, community-based organization. Fluency in English is required. Proficiency in Spanish and/or Haitian Creole is beneficial. Reliable means of transportation available during work hours, valid driver’s license, insurance and registration. Regional travel will be expected. Flexibility to work on weekends. Ability to walk for prolonged periods of time, up to 4 consecutive hours daily, as part of their community outreach expectations. Salary to commensurate with experience.
