Sustainability Job Purpose:

Under direct supervision, the Community Outreach Associate will work as part of the SCDES Office of Collaborative Partnerships & Strategic Initiatives to lead in the development, promotion and delivery of environmental education resources for communities and partnering organizations.

Job Duties:

Coordinate and offer environmental outreach and education at the community level, including development and/or delivery of programs, curricula and presentations for K-12 and college students. Assist the Office of Collaborative Partnerships and Strategic Initiatives in designing, planning, and implementing environmental education communications, web pages, resources, and other materials for stakeholders, partners, and community leaders. Foster excellent communications and connections with SCDES bureaus and program areas on available information and educational resources for community and educational partners. Track program deliverables, outcomes and impacts, where appropriate. Coordinate with educational & community partners in assessing community needs for information on environmental topics and focus areas. Stay informed of and share information on national, statewide, and local environmental education initiatives, grant opportunities, and resources. Other duties as required. Minimum and Additional Requirements A high school diploma and five years of environmental health or related experience.

Degrees in a related technical field include, but are not limited to, Earth sciences, chemistry, biology, physics, soil science, environmental science, mathematics, etc. Institutions of Higher Learning must be recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation. Additional Requirements:

Excellent leadership and organizational skills. Experience with collaborative partnerships and problem solving. Excellent communication skills and ability to make presentations in a group setting; communicate clearly and concisely in both an oral and written manner. Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment and encourage positive working relationships with co-workers, industry, environmental interest groups, and government officials. Preferred Qualifications A master’s degree in the natural or physical sciences

  • or related technical field and one year of environmental health or related experience. A bachelor’s degree in the natural or physical sciences
  • or related technical field and two years of environmental health or related experience. An associate degree in the natural or physical sciences
  • or related technical field and four years of environmental health or related experience.

A high school diploma and six years of environmental health or related experience.
