The Member Engagement Coordinator is a key leadership role responsible for fostering meaningful relationships with YMCA members, ensuring positive member experiences, and proactively addressing membership retention and engagement. This role focuses on connecting with members at all stages of their YMCA journey, identifying opportunities to improve satisfaction, and working diligently to prevent terminations or encourage returning membership. The Coordinator serves as a visible leader on the floor, guiding members through concerns, providing solutions, and ensuring that every member feels welcomed, valued, and supported. Must also demonstrate a commitment to YMCA Core Values of Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility. A bachelor’s degree (preferred) or equivalent and two years of supervisory experience in a customer service or marketing environment are desired. Must possess strong communication skills, sound reasoning ability and aptitude for working with others in a patient professional manner that instills the YMCA character development values and mission. Skills in leadership and supervision, and experience using Microsoft Office desirable.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Create a strong presence on the throughout the facility to engage with members daily. Build genuine relationships with members, learning names, interests, and goals to foster a sense of belonging. Conduct regular member follow-ups, satisfaction check-ins, and new member onboarding experiences. Serve as a liaison between members and program directors to connect individuals with appropriate YMCA programs and services. Proactively monitor membership trends, identifying members at risk of termination. Initiate personal outreach via phone calls, emails, or in-person conversations to address concerns and offer solutions that encourage continued membership. Collaborate with the Member Services Team to “flip” pending terminations into active memberships through empathy, problem-solving, and flexible options. Track and document outreach efforts, reporting trends and outcomes to leadership for continuous improvement. Assist with daily membership desk operations, ensuring smooth and consistent service. Resolve member concerns or complaints promptly and professionally, escalating to leadership when appropriate. Maintain accurate records of member interactions, terminations, and saved memberships. Prepare weekly and monthly reports to evaluate retention efforts, identify challenges, and recommend adjustments to strategies.
