Marketing Full Job Description Position Overview:

The Thrift Shop Coordinator – Merchandising is responsible for managing the merchandising operations of the Thrift Shop, ensuring that visual presentation, inventory movement, and display planning align with the shop’s mission and customer experience goals. All Thrift Shop staff members are expected to provide exceptional customer and donor service and to have knowledge of the organization’s mission in order to be effective ambassadors of Beverly Bootstraps. This position oversees the creation and execution of engaging, customer-focused store displays and ensures that the shopping environment remains visually dynamic, seasonally relevant, and well-aligned with merchandising strategies. Responsibilities include managing the visual flow of inventory, planning and documenting displays, and maintaining accurate records of inventory and merchandising activities. The Thrift Shop Coordinator – Merchandising is responsible for maintaining an understanding of shopper identities and habits through research, engagement, and trend monitoring, and for using that insight to inform display themes, product placement, and pricing strategy. They will also track online resale trends, competitor activity, and pop culture references that could influence merchandising decisions. This role collaborates closely with the marketing team to coordinate visual merchandising for campaigns and promotions, contributes to social media content, and supports community outreach by showcasing in- store features. The Coordinator also partners with other Thrift Shop Coordinators to ensure storewide cohesion in layout, signage, and product strategy. The Coordinator is accountable for planning and executing store layouts that optimize space and support sales performance. They will monitor merchandising-related key performance indicators (KPIs), such as product rotation timelines, display completion rates, and customer engagement metrics, and report regularly to the Director of Thrift Operations. The Thrift Shop Coordinator – Merchandising will be trained on register use, cash handling, and other operational tasks and may be asked to support or cover other departments as needed. Flexibility in scheduling is expected, including alternate shifts and special events. The Coordinator may be assigned opening, closing, and Manager-on-Duty responsibilities, including preparing the Retail or Donations areas for business or securing and cleaning designated spaces at the end of day. They are also responsible for directing staff, resolving customer or donor concerns, supporting policy enforcement, facilitating breaks, and coordinating training for staff and volunteers. The employee will work with staff agency-wide as needed and is expected to adhere to the Beverly Bootstraps “community norms” and contribute to the mission of the agency.

Essential Functions:
  • Provide exceptional donor and customer service
  • Design and maintain visually engaging store displays that reflect seasonal priorities and customer needs
  • Manage merchandising calendar and document plans, display rotations, and associated inventory movement
  • Track and report merchandising KPIs such as inventory turnover, customer engagement, and display execution
  • Maintain an active understanding of shopper behavior through in-store engagement and market research
  • Monitor resale, retail, and thrift industry trends to inform pricing and visual decisions
  • Coordinate with marketing staff on broad promotional campaigns.
  • Contribute to social media content, aligning with brand guidelines.
  • Collaborate with other Thrift Shop Coordinators to maintain cohesive store layout and product presentation
  • Maintain merchandising workspaces and floor presentation areas in a clean, organized, and safe condition
  • Provide or coordinate training on merchandising standards and product staging for staff and volunteers
  • Support policy enforcement, assist with break coverage, and provide operational coverage across departments as needed
  • Open or close the shop as assigned, including securing facilities and managing closing tasks
  • Attend team meetings and contribute insights related to merchandising effectiveness and sales trends
  • Adhere to the Beverly Bootstraps Security Plan and Procedures

Minimum Qualifications:
    Education:

    Graduation from high school or equivalent program

      Experience:

      At least two years of related work experience, retail management and/or team management.

      • At least two years of visual merchandising, marketing, or similar experience.
      OR:

      An equivalent combination of education and experience.

      • Successful CORI and Background check

      • Comfortable with computers and digital tools, including calendars, inventory systems, and basic office software
      • Able to take direction from the management team while also demonstrating initiative and accountability in leading merchandising efforts

      Beverly Bootstraps Primary Physical Requirements:

      Employee must be able to lift up to 50 pounds. Employee will need to interface with a variety of donors and customers and be able to resolve donor and customer questions and issues. Employee must be able to stock items in the store. The employee must be able to work well with volunteers, donors, customers and staff.
