Position Summary
The Andersons is an Agricultural Supply Chain company that is dedicated to providing high-quality grain products to meet the demands of our customers and end-users. As we focus on our goal of feeding and fueling the world we are seeking a dynamic and experienced Commodity Merchant to join our Dried Distillers Grains trading team.
The Merchant position is responsible for market discovery and playing a key role in driving P&L results.ÂThe scope of responsibility could be operating an existing book of business developing a long-term strategic vision for existing market and acting on that vision to build out their book of business.ÂThis position is highly collaborative and shares information internally to optimize efficiency and effectiveness while developing an extraordinary understanding of an existing market.
Key Responsibilities
Manage the buying and selling activities for assigned Dried Distillers Grain commodity
Develop deeper understanding of supply and demand survey market conditions and analyze other economic forces in order to establish position in the market
Initiate negotiate and agree on terms of commodity purchase/sale contracts such as price quality quantity transportation timing and payment
Arrange efficient transportation of commodities both by truck and rail
Ensure thorough and accurate follow-up execution and closure to all contracts
Research and identify new customers and/or suppliers as well as develop and maintain regular communication to build and grow current customer relationships
Analyze commodity markets to identify trading opportunities
Gain basic understanding of arbitrage macro-environmental factors that impact the supply and demand of commodities and logistics process and decision making
What is expected of you and others at this level
Intermediate knowledge and experience in own discipline; still acquiring higher level knowledge and skills.
Solves a range of straightforward problems
Analyzes possible solutions using standard procedures
Receives a moderate level of guidance and direction
Education & Experience
Bachelorâs Degree required or the equivalent in work experience preferably in Agriculture Business Finance Economics or related major
2-5 yearsâ of experience required in commodity merchandising originations or trading
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software
Physical Requirements and Working Environment
Prolonged period of sitting at a desk and working at a computer
