Position Summary The Andersons is an Agricultural Supply Chain company that provides high-quality grain products to meet the demands of our customers and end-users. As we focus on our goal of feeding and fueling the world, we are seeking a dynamic and experienced Commodity Merchant to join our Soybean Meal, Loose Soyhulls, Soyhull Pellets, Canola Meal/Pellets and Bypass products team. This role will be based out of our Burlington, Vermont trading office. Key Responsibilities Manage the buying and selling activities for assigned commodities Develop deeper understanding of supply and demand, survey market conditions, and analyze other economic forces in order to establish position in the market Initiate, negotiate and agree on terms of commodity purchase/sale contracts, such as price, quality, quantity, transportation, timing and payment Arrange efficient transportation of commodities, both by truck and rail Ensure thorough and accurate follow-up, execution, and closure to all contracts Research and identify new customers and/or suppliers as well as develop and maintain regular communication to build and grow current customer relationships Analyze commodity markets to identify trading opportunities Gain basic understanding of arbitrage, macro-environmental factors that impact the supply and demand of commodities, and logistics process and decision making Work closely with the trading team to understand existing market knowledge while developing an understanding for current and past trade flows to help make market decisions and long-term business strategies that meet financial goals What is expected of you and others at this level Intermediate knowledge and experience in own discipline; still acquiring higher level knowledge and skills. Solves a range of straightforward problems Analyzes possible solutions using standard procedures Receives a moderate level of guidance and direction Education & Experience Bachelor’s Degree required (or the equivalent in work experience) preferably in Agriculture, Business, Finance Economics or related major 2-5 years’ of experience required in commodity merchandising, originations, or trading Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail Excellent written and verbal communication skills Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software Physical Requirements and Working Environment Prolonged period of sitting at a desk and working at a computer #LI-EM1 This job description is intended to describe the general nature and level of work performed.
