Purchasing Full Job Description Overview:

Join the Crustacean sensation that’s sweeping the hockey nation! The Athens Rock Lobsters, a proud member of the Federal Prospects Hockey League, are seeking a creative, driven, and detail-oriented Director of Merchandise to lead our retail strategy and elevate our brand presence both in-arena, online, and in the community. As the Director of Merchandise, you’ll be the key player responsible for developing and executing a comprehensive merchandising vision—from product development and buying to inventory management, visual presentation, and e-commerce operations. This is a high-impact role for a team player who thrives in a fast-paced, fan-focused environment and understands that great merch moves the needle on revenue and fan engagement.

Key Responsibilities:

Design and implement a merchandise strategy aligned with the team’s brand and revenue goals. Oversee purchasing, vendor relations, inventory management, and product pricing. Manage all retail operations at home games, including staffing, setup, POS systems, and customer service. Develop and maintain the team’s physical and online store(s), including product listings, photography, and promotions. Track sales data and report on performance, trends, and insights. Collaborate with sales, marketing, and creative teams on product launches, game-day giveaways, and special promotions. Ensure a consistent and on-brand fan experience across all sales channels. Forecast demand and manage budgets to optimize profitability.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Business, Retail Management, or related field (or equivalent experience). 3+ years of experience in merchandise, retail operations, or e-commerce—sports or entertainment industry preferred. Strong eye for design, trends, and fan preferences. Experience managing vendors, purchasing, and inventory systems (Shopify experience a plus). Ability to lead a team during fast-paced game nights and events. Passion for sports, entertainment, and creating memorable fan experiences.
