Category Data Analyst –

Grocery Industry Overview:

We are seeking a Category Data Analyst to support the category management team by maintaining accurate product data, analyzing pricing and sales trends, and ensuring seamless data integration across multiple grocery departments. This role will be responsible for data integrity, reporting, and system transitions while optimizing category performance through analytics.

Key Responsibilities:

Data Management & Integrity Maintain and update product attributes, pricing, costs, yields, and vendor data in the category management system. Ensure accuracy in product listings, UPCs, supplier data, and promotional pricing. Scrub and validate data during system migrations and category resets. Category Analytics & Reporting Analyze sales, margin, and pricing trends to provide insights that drive category growth. Generate reports on category performance, price elasticity, competitive positioning, and customer buying behavior. Develop dashboards in Tableau, Power BI, or Excel to support category decision-making. Pricing & Costing Strategy Assist in setting and updating pricing strategies for assigned categories (e.g., Bakery, Dairy, Meat, Seafood, Grocery, or Frozen). Monitor and report on supplier cost changes, promotions, and competitive pricing adjustments. Work closely with the merchandising and category management teams to ensure accurate pricing execution. Collaboration & Cross-Functional Support Work with category managers, merchandising teams, supply chain, and IT to optimize product listings and pricing structures. Assist in transitioning data into new retail management software and support category-specific projects. Ensure compliance with company policies, supplier agreements, and industry regulations.

Qualifications:

1-3 years of experience in category management, pricing analysis, merchandising analytics, or retail data administration in a grocery, supermarket, or food retail environment. Proficiency in retail management systems (e.g., SAP, NCR, Oracle Retail, Symphony, Retalix, or other grocery ERP systems). Advanced skills in Excel, Google Sheets, SQL, or data visualization tools (Tableau, Power BI, Looker, etc.). Strong understanding of category management principles, retail pricing strategies, and product lifecycle analysis. Experience with SKU management, inventory systems, and vendor data coordination. High attention to detail with the ability to manage large datasets efficiently.

Preferred Experience:

Previous work in a grocery store corporate office, CPG company, or wholesale food distributor. Background in costing, category planning, or retail analytics. Experience in POS or ERP system migrations.
