The Salvation Army Thrift Store Huntsville, AL About this opportunity: Assists store customers in donating, selecting, and purchasing store items; operates and maintains a cash register; responds to customers’ questions; maintains the cleanliness and orderliness of the store displays; ensures the security of store items and the cash register. Receives, sorts, prices and prepares donated items for display in the store; determines suitability and pricing of items based on established standards; assists in maintaining the orderliness and cleanliness of the warehouse area.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of effective customer service techniques. Knowledge of the principles and practices of basic mathematics. Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language. Ability to operate a cash register. Ability to perform routine mathematical computations and count change.
Responsibilities include:
Assists customers purchasing items by ringing up sales utilizing a cash register; collects monies, counts change and prepares receipts; prepares and balances the cash drawer and runs print-outs; prepares bank deposits; ensures the security and accountability of all cash register funds and sales records in accordance with established operating procedures Places and arranges items in the store as directed Answers the phone in a tactful and courteous manner. Receives, inspects and sorts donated items such as clothes, shoes, household items, bric-a-brac, etc. according to category and condition Tags items with specially coded ticket and/or prices in accordance with established policies Maintains store and warehouse area in a neat and orderly manner What we are looking for in you: High school diploma or G.E.D. and experience working in a retail store.
License and certifications:
Approved background check required Physical requirements and working conditions: Ability to meet attendance requirements. Ability to perform frequent walking and/or standing, kneeling, or squatting relieved by lesser periods of sitting. Ability to lift and carry and/or push/pull light (less than 25 lbs.) materials, supplies and equipment. Work is performed in a normal store environment where there is little or no discomforts associated with dust, noise, crowds, chemical odors and the like. Why work for us?
