Description:

Seeking Dedicated Deckhands & Crew Members The Essex Steam Train and Riverboat is looking for motivated team members to fill Deckhand and Crew assignments for our primary operational season.

Based on performance , employment may be offered for November – December operations.

Operational Conditions:

Deckhand duties are performed in all weather conditions . Work includes both day and night operations. Duties are performed while the vessel is underway .

Physical Requirements:

Shipboard positions are physically demanding .

The role involves:

Repetitive motion. Frequent bending and climbing. Regular heavy lifting .

Requirements:

Maritime Operations Guidelines for Deckhands & Mates I. Core Expectations & Professional Conduct A. General Performance Standards (All Deck Crew):

Adaptability:

Be flexible and responsive to changing conditions and needs.

Perform all duties to a high standard of excellence.

Timeliness:

Complete tasks efficiently and be punctual for all duties.

Communication:

Maintain open, professional, and clear communication, both in receiving and providing information. This is critical as operational changes are frequent. Growth (Senior Deckhand/Mate): Continuously seek to improve skills and knowledge.

General Conduct & Character:

Uphold a professional demeanor at all times.

Bearing, Dress & Appearance:

Maintain a clean, professional appearance in accordance with uniform standards. Hats (sun and baseball caps) must be worn as part of the uniform; baseball caps must be worn forward-facing. “ASK me” pins are required. Fun name tags may be permitted occasionally. Clothes/shirts, if drying, must be kept in the locker room area. B. Adherence to

Policies & Procedures:

Strictly follow guidelines outlined in the Maritime Operations Manual, Checklists, Placards, and any other official documentation provided by the Maritime Operations Manager. USCG Regulated employees must participate in the Random Drug and Alcohol Screening Program.

Problem Reporting:

Channel all work-related problems or challenges directly to the Captain and Maritime Operations Director. Do not discuss these issues amongst other employees.

Alcohol & Smoking:

Absolutely no consumption of alcoholic beverages on board the vessel at any time. No smoking is permitted on the vessel or in its immediate vicinity.

Tattoos & Piercings:

All tattoos must be covered at all times while working. All visible body piercings on the face must be removed or covered.

Cell Phone Usage:

Deckhands should not use personal cell phones during the operational day. Store them in your car, locker, or (if permitted) the Wheelhouse
