JOB DESCRIPTION
This position is responsible for the operation and management of the ModelShop located in the College of Design, Construction and Planning (DCP). Teach and assist students, faculty, and staff in the safe and proper operation of machine tools & material testing equipment.
Teach materials laboratory techniques to student assistants, faculty and DCP students.
Supervise students, faculty, and staff in the safe and proper operations of machine tools & material testing equipment.
Provide verbal or written notice through signage, warnings, and appropriate information the techniques to ensure the safety of all shop users.
Create and maintain Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) manuals for Model shop and equipment use.
Build or assist in projects in regards to the building, furniture, fixtures or other items directly related to the college research, teaching or service functions upon request from the College deans, directors or department chairpersons. In order to minimize scheduling conflicts and “out of shop time”, all requests for work should be coordinated through Department Heads or Dean’s Office.
Ensure the proper use and maintenance of shop properties.
Be responsible for the safe storage and of shop materials and equipment.
Maintain shop premises in a clean and orderly fashion.
Maintain shop equipment in proper working order and perform minor repairs as necessary. Acquire, through purchase order, new or replacement materials, supplies, and tools necessary to perform minor repairs as necessary.
Work with UF facilities and outside vendors for equipment maintenance, contracts and new/replacement purchases.
EXPECTED SALARY
$55,000 – $62,000 per year
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
A high school diploma and six years of appropriate experience. Appropriate college coursework may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience.
PREFERRED
Experience in the performance and operations management of shop
Knowledge of relevant regulations and quality standards
Proficiency in operation and maintenance of all shop equipment
Compliance with all UF courses and training
Training and supervisory experience
Stay abreast of UF and college guidelines, policies and procedures
