Primary Purpose:

Position greets visitors and sells general merchandise related to marine education. Provides customer service to guests, accounts for budget expenses, processes reports and helps support other MEEC departments such as education and animal care. Position assists with public communications through NSU, Broward County Parks and Rec., and the MEEC’s social media feeds. Works under the direction of the Director of the MEEC.

Yes Essential Job Functions:

1. Operates cash drawer daily and handles payment for shop items. Manages opening and closing procedures 2. Maintains and reports sales figures. 3. Ensures a positive shopping experience through excellent customer service. 4. Orders and stocks merchandise, controls inventory, and minimize waste. 5. Maintains cleanliness of sales floor displays to ensure a welcoming atmosphere. 6. Researches and procures new inventory items. Works with vendors to identify opportunities for growth. 7. Develops and implements visual merchandising strategies to enhance product appeal and sales. 8. Assists with answering telephone calls, replying to messages and emails, and forwarding calls and information to other staff. 9. Assists with needs from other departments such as education and animal care. 10. Assists in daily operations of MEEC at the Carpenter House facility. 11. Manages the Online MEEC Store. 12. Performs other duties as assigned or required.

Job Requirements:
Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

1. Excellent customer service skills and effective communication. 2. Knowledge of retail operation for museum or similar educational organization. 3. Organized self-starter with ability to build educational gift shop inventory. 4. Knowledge of MS Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook. 5. Database and data entry skills.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS / WORKING CONDITIONS

1. Ability to walk up and down two flights of stairs, multiple times, daily. 2. Ability to work a 9:00a-5:00p shift from Tuesday through Saturday. 3. Handling and Moving Objects – Must be able to use both hands in handling, installing, positioning, and moving materials and manipulating things. 4. Static strength – Must be able to exert maximum muscle force to lift, push, pull, or carry objects. 5. May be required to work nights or weekends. 6. May be exposed to short, intermittent, and/or prolonged periods of silting and/or standing in performance of job duties.

High school diploma or equivalent and three (3) years of customer service and cashier experience. -OR- Bachelors degree and up to six (6) months of customer service and cashier experience.

1. Bachelors degree and up to six (6) months of customer service and cashier experience. 2. Experience working in educational environment. 3.
