Hourly Company Overview Herb’n Garden Farms in an exciting, new, controlled environment agriculture greenhouse operation in Grand Island, NY to provide locals with the freshest, healthiest vegetables year-round. Our state-of-the-art hydroponic growing methods utilize 90% less water than conventional farming, use no soil, no herbicides, are non GMO, ergonomically friendly and are the cleanest, safest production methods possible. Our Greenhouse Team Members work together to cultivate, maintain, harvest and pack our freshly grown produce for market and perform cleaning and maintenance tasks as needed in the greenhouse and at the farm. Position Summary Working as a team, our Greenhouse Team Members plant, maintain, harvest and pack freshly grown produce, clean hydroponic equipment and greenhouse areas as needed, assist with other greenhouse and farm maintenance tasks and play a vital role in the overall success of our operation. Responsibilities & Duties Plants seeds in accordance with standardized methods. Transplants seedlings from germination room to nursery, and into final growing positions. Harvests and packs fresh produce per standards. Cleans and sanitizes equipment, hydroponic system components, greenhouse areas and other facilities on the farm according to standard procedures. Utilizes shears, knives, scales, carts, trays, scales and standardized units of measure to perform daily tasks. Examines growing plants to look for irregularities including but not limited to insects, nutrient deficiencies, pathogens and other issues that are detrimental to the crop and reports them to management. Works directly with other team members, communicating in a professional, friendly, manner about daily task assignments, customer orders, horticultural issues, maintenance issues and other information. Frequently utilizes ladders, step stools, platforms and other equipment to access high growing plants. Prunes, cluster prunes and trellises tomatoes and other Dutch bucket crops in accordance with training & standards. Preforms other greenhouse tasks as assigned, including but not limited to applying foliar fertilizers and other aerosols as required, logging hydroponic system information, performing basic daily maintenance on the hydroponic systems. Adheres to proper food handling, sanitation, and safety procedures as trained. Maintains GAP, temperature and Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) logs as required Maintains proper Lot code traceability at all times and labels products correctly. Uses scrub brushes, hoses, pressure washers, brooms, mops and other cleaning equipment to maintain the cleanliness and sanitation of equipment, food storage, and work areas. Communicates openly with leadership about ideas, processes and challenges. Washes produce prior to packaging for market as required. Other tasks as assigned. Skills and Qualifications Must be energetic and able to work in a physically demanding position. Must be able to stand unassisted for long periods of time. Must be able to repeatedly lift, carry, push and pull up to 75 lbs. over head while standing on a ladder. Must be able to work in varied environmental conditions, including but not limited to, prolonged sun exposure, hot, humid, tight spaces, indoors, outdoors, inclement weather, walk-in refrigeration, humid, noisy situations and more. Outgoing, fun, creative, farming / gardening enthusiasts preferred. Greenhouse experience preferred. Must be able to utilize soaps, bleach, other cleaners & sanitizers to maintain greenhouse environment. Must demonstrate pride in workmanship, attention to detail and care in working with plants and equipment. Work Hours & Benefits Shift times and days vary. Schedules change seasonally. Typical starting is in the early morning. Reliable transportation required 6 months prior experience with physical labor, cleaning, custodial work, greenhouse work, landscaping and/or agriculture preferred.
