We are seeking an experienced and results-driven Senior Collections Manager to lead a team of 12-18 collections professionals. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in collections, with a focus on first-party collections for unsubmitted local tax returns across various tax types, including sales use, tobacco, business license, and others. This position is responsible for driving the collection process, improving team performance, and ensuring tax compliance while maintaining positive relationships with clients.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Lead, mentor, and manage a team of 12-18 collections specialists. Oversee the collection of unsubmitted local tax returns for various tax types, including sales and use tax, tobacco tax, business license, and others. Submit placements to a third-party vendor for external collection efforts as needed. Monitor and drive team performance metrics to ensure efficient and effective collections. Work with internal teams to identify and resolve collection issues. Maintain compliance with local, state, and federal regulations related to tax collections. Assist in the development and execution of strategies to improve collection rates and reduce aged receivables. Collaborate with other departments to streamline processes and enhance the overall collection strategy. Provide ongoing training and development for the collections team. Track and report on team performance, setting goals and improving overall productivity. Perform other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:
5+ years of experience in collections, with at least 2 years in a management or leadership role. Proven experience in first-party collections, preferably within tax-related areas such as sales use, tobacco, business licenses, or similar. Strong understanding of collection practices and regulations. Experience in managing a team and driving performance metrics. Tax experience is a plus, with an understanding of audits beneficial but not required. Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills. Ability to work independently and manage a diverse team. Strong analytical skills and attention to detail. Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with professionalism.
Work Environment :
Office setting with a moderate noise level. The employee will work at an individual workstation, using a telephone and computer Some travel may be required.
Physical Demands :
Must be able to remain seated for extended periods. Regular use of a computer and other office machinery, such as printers and copy machines. Occasional movement around the office. Frequent communication via telephone.
