Job Description

General Store Manager Winter Timber Outdoors 1124 US Highway 72 E, Athens, AL 35611 Winter Timber Outdoors is seeking a dynamic and experienced Store Manager to lead the operations of our Athens, Alabama location. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in retail management, particularly within high-transaction environments, and preferably within the shooting sports or outdoor industry. This role demands exceptional leadership abilities, effective communication skills, and a strong capacity to manage multiple tasks simultaneously. The Store Manager will be responsible for driving sales, delivering outstanding customer service, and fostering a high-performing team that achieves both individual and company goals. Pay will be based on experience.

Key Responsibilities:

Oversee daily store operations, ensuring strict adherence to company policies, procedures, and industry best practices. Manage employee schedules and shift assignments in collaboration with the centralized management team in Athens, AL, ensuring optimal productivity and service levels. Lead, train, and develop store associates to enhance their professional growth and contribute to the company’s success. Foster a positive and customer-focused environment by maintaining open and effective communication with both staff and customers. Collaborate with vendor sales representatives to assess product performance, enhance inventory turnover, and identify opportunities to improve sales. Monitor and manage inventory to maximize profitability while minimizing shrinkage and loss. Manage labor and overhead budgets to ensure cost control while meeting or exceeding sales targets. Track and evaluate store performance, implementing strategies to enhance revenue and operational efficiency. Ensure the store is consistently clean, organized, and well-stocked, creating an inviting shopping experience for customers. Handle cash transactions, deposits, and petty cash management, ensuring accuracy and compliance with company procedures. Travel, as needed, for business-related purposes. Provide regular updates to Winter Timber Outdoors management regarding store performance, employee matters, and other relevant business concerns. Adhere to all local, state, and federal regulations applicable to retail and firearms businesses, ensuring compliance by all team members. Immediately report any known or suspected violations of regulations or company policies to management.

Qualifications:

Proven experience as a Store Manager or in a comparable retail leadership role. Strong proficiency in shift management, time management, budgeting, and team development. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to motivate and engage a diverse team. Experience with Point of Sale (POS) systems for sales transactions, inventory management, and reporting. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and similar software programs. Familiarity with the firearms, shooting sports, or outdoor retail industry is highly desirable, though not required. Experience with Federal Firearms License (FFL) regulations is a plus but not a requirement. Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a keen attention to detail and a proactive approach to problem-solving. Availability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and peak sales periods, with an expected workload of approximately 45 hours per week.

Employees are entitled to 10 days of paid time off (PTO) and sick leave per calendar year. PTO days do not roll over to the following year and must be used within the current calendar year.

Blackout Period :

PTO days may not be taken between December 1 and December 23 (peak shopping season), unless prior approval is granted by the Employer. Extended PTO for

Long-Term Employees :

After 3 years of continuous employment, the Employee will be eligible for 15 days of PTO/sick leave beginning in the 4th year of employment. After 5 years of continuous employment, the Employee will be eligible for 20 days of PTO/sick leave beginning in the 6th year of employment. Employee is not eligible for overtime compensation. Health insurance, dental, vision, and life insurance can be provided if needed. 401K Program with employer matching beginning in January 2026.
