POSITION SUMMARY
Sciens Building Solutions seeks a Fabrication Shop Manager, whose primary function is to manage the performance of assigned team members to achieve a high customer satisfaction level, ensuring they provide knowledgeable, responsive, professional, and courteous service and a high-quality product. This person will be responsible for managing and mentoring team members in all aspects of their assigned responsibilities, company policies, and procedures. They will report on core competencies of team members and identify training and development needs. The Fabrication Shop Manager will work closely with designers, project managers, field personnel, and outside commercial customers to schedule, manage, and deliver products in a timely manner.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsible to ensure all associates embrace the Sciens safety culture and comply with all safety initiatives. Provide supervision, mentoring, and training of assigned team members; manage their review process and identify training needs. Oversee the day-to-day activities of the fabrication shop staff and team members to ensure all tasks are completed in a timely manner and meet the company’s standards of excellence. Complete fabrication projects on time and within budget while complying with industry quality standards. Responsible for paint shop operations to meet project requirements. Work closely with the Department Manager to establish an environment of constant improvement. Meet monthly with the Department Manager and the General Manager to review departmental goals. Coordinate with finance department to ensure billings are accurate and timely for customers. Have a basic understanding of job costing, purchase orders, and budget compliance. Review and approve all weekly team member schedules and timecards. Train staff on the use of all enabling technology platforms, such as the ERP, time management, or tracking systems. Provide estimates for outside commercial customers for fabrication services. Work with designers, project managers, service managers, and field personnel to provide necessary fabrication services in a timely manner. Ensure all contracts are properly entered into the management system, including scope, hours, task breakdown, type of system, billing necessities, or any non-standard/special requirements. Collaborate with People & Culture on team member performance and facilitate disciplinary action as needed. Participate in company-sponsored meetings, training, and other functions. Work independently, or with others as a team, to complete all tasks and related functions. Works directly with team members to establish goals for professional and personal development; update and monitor on a regular basis.
REQUIREMENTS
Two or more years of experience in a supervisory role within the commercial fire suppression industry. Two years of paint shop experience. Five years of experience as a welder, pipe cutter and threader. Have been responsible for safety compliance and safety reporting. Knowledge of OSHA safety standards as related to a production and paint shop environment. Ability to read fire system design drawings, blueprints, and take/read measurements. Fully familiar with the operation and use of trade tools and machinery to perform daily fabrication duties efficiently and safely. Able to work under tight deadlines. Ability to train others to use fabrication shop trade tools and machinery efficiently and safely. Excellent organizational, decision-making, and communication skills. Familiar with fire protection codes and operations. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Strong leadership and time management skills. High school diploma or equivalent.
