This position is responsible for daily supervision of shop operations and supports the professional training and educational mission of the School. We are looking for someone who can communicate effectively with graduate and undergraduate students, designers, faculty and staff. In addition to the position, the costume area includes two full-time faculty members, one full-time staff member, and as many as 12 costume graduate students on half-time assistantships. The Costume Shop Manager is responsible for the planning and execution of all phases of costume and costume craft construction, alteration, fittings and procurement for all School of Theatre productions and projects. This position monitors and ensures professional quality standards are met on all production work. The Costume Shop Manager must possess a background in creating costumes of a high caliber, including advanced expertise in standard costume construction methods, knowledge of textiles and other materials, pattern development and fitting techniques, tailoring basics, costume crafts, millinery, fabric modification, dyeing and distressing.

The Costume Shop Manager coordinates all costume expense activity in accordance with FSU policies, monitors budgets for materials, labor, and is expected to run an efficient, organized, and safe workspace. In addition, the Costume Shop Manager oversees the daily activities for the shop including supervising graduate and undergraduate students, creating and monitoring labor estimates for productions, and allocating resources as needed to meet deadlines. Qualifications MFA in costume technology/management, or MFA in costume design with emphasis on technology, and two years’ experience, or BA/BFA in costume technology/management plus four years’ experience in a professional theatre.
