Full Job Description Summary:

American Stage Theatre Company in St. Petersburg, Florida is seeking a dynamic and skilled Costume Shop Manager to join our team. Be a part of bringing exciting plays and musicals to the stage! The Costume Shop Manager is responsible for the overall operation of the costume shop including design integration, construction, fitting, repairing, cleaning, storing, and cataloging of costumes. The Costume Shop Manager also manages all aspects of American Stage’s wardrobe and theatrical costumes during all performances, including productions on our main stage, annual outdoor musical, annual educational tour, summer camp musical, and outreach and marketing services.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

Under the direction of the Director of Production, the Costume Shop Manager is responsible for the efficient operation of the costume shop, including: Supervise completion of all costume & wig/hair elements as specified by designers, director and choreographer within time frame and budget set by American Stage (AS). Maintain and stock the costume shop and wardrobe inventory; including costume cleaning, repair work, shoe inventory, costume shop supplies, equipment, and fabric inventory. Create cost estimates on all shows and maintain ongoing accurate records/running tally of all expenditures. Develop costume shop & wig/hair schedules, benchmarks and build deadlines. Facilitate work flow through shop by delegating appropriate jobs to shop staff. Oversee purchasing of shopped costume pieces. Oversee patterning, cutting, and construction of costumes from beginning to end. Process, track, and catalogue all invoices for costume purchases within each production. Schedule and supervise all fittings (costume & wig) in coordination with the Stage Management and Director of Production Oversee special projects such as dying, fabric painting, and millinery Oversee the cleaning and return of all rental costumes in a timely manner Maintain an inventory of costumes available for rental or loan to other companies. Oversee rental pricing, rental contracts and shipping Recruit, interview, supervise, and mentor a year long Costume & Wardrobe Fellow member The Costume Shop Manager is responsible for all aspects of costuming during a show run, including: Establishes costume guidelines and best practices with performers in the theater. Pack and prepare costumes for transport to and from performance venues Supervise and manage wardrobe and dresser staff. Oversee & schedule the maintenance and daily wardrobe needs of costumes during a show run Oversee & schedule run-of-show duties

Preferred Qualifications:

4-5 years’ experience in the hands-on fabrication of theatrical costumes, or comparable experience in the fashion industry 3-4 years related experience supervising performance run operations 2-3 years related supervisory experience Undergrad degree or comparable experience is theatre costuming related field. High level of organization and attention to details Experience creating and monitoring budgets. Knowledge in the requirements of Actors’ Equity Association regarding rules and guidelines related to costumes and wigs. Capacity for working well within a team and managing seamstresses or stitchers Periodic availability to work evenings, weekends, and/or the occasional Holiday.

Compensation:

Annual Salary Range based on experience within $47,000-$50,000.
