PRIMARY PURPOSE

Manage retail operations for the assigned department makingdecisions impacting store associates, merchandise quality andpresentation and the level of service offered to our customers.

Build associate and customer relations and promote a strong culturein support of Hannaford Strategy through store huddles, rolemodeling our cultural behaviors and consistent use of all availabletools to help manage for performance. Ensure that store conditionsinvolving store appearance, security, safety and food safety areconsistently maintained at the highest level. Accountable forproper control of company assets.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Foster a positive and inclusive environment to retain associatesand customers.
  • Ensure that all quality standards are met.
  • Managedepartment operations in accordance with established departmentstandard practices.
  • Ensure the maintenance of the department’sappearance and presentation.
  • Hire, train and develop associates tomeet the department needs.
  • Attain departmental financialobjectives.
  • Supervise performance of all duties andresponsibilities of all assigned department associates.
  • Role modeloutstanding friendly customer service.
  • Use good judgement in thedelegation, assignment, and follow-up required for the efficientperformance of the department.
  • Ensure the maintenance of accuraterecords of production, shrink, sales and inventory.
  • Must be ableto meet physical requirements of the position, with or withoutreasonable accommodations.
  • Provide recognition of accomplishmentsand offer constructive counseling when necessary.
  • Treat allco-workers with fairness, dignity, and respect.
  • Ensure departmentassociates are properly trained by certified trainers.
  • Ensure allcompany policies and procedures are followed as outlined.
  • Developproduct knowledge in all areas of the assigned department.
  • Use RF(Radio Frequency) unit as needed.
  • Retrieve and organize assigneddepartments product loads.
  • Assist in effectively ordering andmaintaining inventory control to maximize sales and limit shrinkissues.
  • Conduct performance appraisals on all departmentassociates according to company standards.
  • Maintain effective workschedules to meet production and customer service standards as wellas associate’s personal needs.
  • Understand and use company toolssuch as: MPP, financial reports, scheduling, ordering and businessinformation systems.
  • Ensure operational and merchandising standardpractices are followed to maximize profitability, paying specialattention to priority categories.
  • Maintain solid communication inthe department and throughout the organization.
  • Observe and ensurecompliance with company sanitation, safety and food safetystandards.
  • Understand the causes and means for resolving andlimiting shrink.
  • Have total understanding of the department’sstandard practice manual and Program Manuals for each assigneddepartments program.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
  • Strongunderstanding of store operations and total store merchandisingtechniques.
  • Excellent interpersonal, customer service andcommunication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ademonstrated ability and willingness to learn multiple tasks andtechnical requirements of the job.
  • Demonstrated good judgementsolving problems, making decisions, handling complaints,arbitrating disputes and resolving grievances.
  • Desire and abilityto lead and manage associates throughout multiple departments.
  • Department Manager or equivalent experience required.
  • Collegedegree or equivalent preferred.
  • Must be accredited by theNational Registry of Food Safety Professionals or similaraccrediting organization as a “Certified Food Safety Manager “orwill be required to attend company provided training and have theability to achieve accreditation within the first 90 days ofemployment. Accreditation must be maintained while employed in aposition requiring accreditation. Physical Requirements
  • Ability to use computers and other communication systems requiredto perform job functions.
  • Lift up to 20 lbs. regularly, includingoverhead lifting and up to 60 lbs. occasionally. Push/pull up to 40lbs. regularly.
  • Meet established volume and fixed activitystandards.
PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS
  • Assist in attaining financial objectives: sales, payroll percent,gross margin, shrink, MPP net percent effectiveness and control ofother expenses.
  • Ensure all company policies and procedures arefollowed as outlined.

  • Observe and ensurecompliance with company security, safety and food safetystandards.
  • Maintain techniques and layouts of merchandiseconsistent with the corporate merchandising philosophy.
  • Completeunderstanding of the causes and means for resolving inventoryshrink issues in the assigned departments.
  • Understand the use ofcompany tools such as: MPP, financial reports, scheduling, orderingand business information systems.
  • Have a solid understanding ofstandard practices for all departments.
  • Maintain solidcommunications with the management team, all associates in thestore and throughout the organization.
  • Treat all store informationas strictly confidential.
  • Perform all other duties and projects asassigned.
