based on experience Shop Manager Oversee daily operations of shop and implement strategies for optimization
Duties and Responsibilities:
Oversee and manage production, quality control, shipping, receiving, machining operations, physical inventory, safety and building maintenance for the Sparta NJ site. Supervise all shop employees, including creating schedules, providing coaching/mentoring, and issuing corrective action when required. Update or create work instructions as needed to improve the systematic flow of work within the company. Analyze and resolve challenges or assist workers to find solutions. Achieve high levels of customer satisfaction through excellence in receiving, producing and shipping quality goods on time. Identify areas of improvement and develop solutions for desired outcomes. Recruit high-performing team members by submitting job requisitions to HR, conducting interviews and selecting candidates. Work on special projects as appointed by the General Manager. Complete performance reviews of staff members to highlight, strengthen and recognize key areas of growth and development. Interface with other departments to ensure inbound and outbound deadlines are met. Prepare shipping reports and projections for leadership. Submit purchasing requests to the General Manager when new equipment is needed. Production Responsibilities Oversee and manage the shipment of products to customers by working with cross-functional teams to ascertain that all shipping programs are performing optimally. Plan daily and weekly production schedules to strengthen the shop’s effectiveness in fulfilling orders on time. Guide multiple departments by issuing daily production loads to harmonize the flow and quality of work for the company. Supervise and perform training for production, shipping, and receiving employees to maximize efficiency. Develop and update production procedures when necessary. Administer and backup the production team in performing the end-of-day report for the company. Review the end-of-day reports and work with multiple departments to verify the status of the order and assist in resolving any issues that are preventing the order from shipping on time. Quality Control Responsibilities Work to ensure that all orders match the customer’s specifications. Perform quality control inspections on orders when necessary. Assist with the development of quality control procedures as new information or products become available. Machining Operations Responsibilities Manage and supervise machining operations performed by shop employees. Back up or perform advanced in-house machining operations. Develop and update machine operation procedures as new information becomes available. Teach basic machining skills to production employees. Physical Inventory Responsibilities Organize inventory storage and ensure warehouse space is maximized. Co-manage Physical Inventory with purchasing agent by initiating and distributing monthly cycle counts. Manage annual physical inventory end-of-year count by working with purchasing, production, receiving, accounting and reporting to upper management, after completion. Manage the process of monthly cycle counts to ensure accuracy of our inventory in QuickBooks. Co-develop and update physical inventory procedures. Safety Responsibilities Conduct and manage warehouse and production safety programs. Understand and implement environmental safety programs. Direct the forklift safety program (per OSHA) to certify shop employees while using these machines. Building Maintenance Responsibilities Oversee and perform building maintenance in house when deemed possible by the General Manager. Schedule contractors for needed maintenance projects when deemed necessary by the General Manager.
Required Education and Experience:
Minimum 5 years relevant working experience in manufacturing or warehouse environment. Technical training or bachelor’s degree preferred. Able to read, write, and follow verbal instructions in Standard English. Must be able to read and comprehend technical specifications. Demonstrated attention to detail, perseverance, and troubleshooting. Proficiency in MS Office products and QuickBooks preferred. Physical and Technical Environment Must lift up to 50 pounds occasionally. Must be able to sit, stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, bend and stoop in a normal warehouse environment. Ability to routinely travel throughout the office and shop area, which includes walking and climbing stairs. Maintain clean and orderly warehouse conditions, handle changing deadlines and project requirements, and manage strict time constraints.
