DESCRIPTION THRIFT SHOP ASSISTANT MANAGER
The Thrift Shop Assistant Manager is responsible for assisting the Thrift Shop Manager (TSM) in all activities that support the management of the thrift shop. The GRASP Thrift Shop is a program that supports the services provided at the GRASP Crisis Relief Center. This person will have a heart for the mission of GRASP, which is to provide service, referrals, and assistance to the people of our community in a Christ-like way. The Assistant Manager will be energetic, friendly, and willing to work directly with the TSM to find innovative ways to improve the thrift shop. The Thrift Shop Assistant Manager is a part-time position that reports directly to the Thrift Shop Manager and serves as a part of the GRASP team. (25 hours per week)
Job Duties:
- Oversee the general operation and success of the retail thrift shop, including receiving and processing donations, as well as displaying merchandise under the direction of the Thrift Shop Manager.
- Operate a cash register, reconcile cash and credit purchases at the end of each workday, and make daily deposits to the bank.
- Be responsible for the positive image of the thrift shop and promoting its purpose, as a program of GRASP, to the community.
- Assist customers with their special needs when the Thrift Shop Manager is absent.
- Promote shop specials or sales through social media, newspapers, church bulletins, etc.
- Assist thrift shop manager with cleaning as needed.
- Sweep floors, vacuum carpets and dust shelves once per week.
- Assist clients with vouchers to provide families with the necessary items after an emergency or crisis.
- Manage the thrift shop when the Thrift Shop Manager is absent.
- Assist with fundraising activities that support GRASP’s mission.
- Other duties as assigned by Thrift Shop Manager.
Qualifications:
- Possess strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Possess strong mathematical skills.
- Ability to adjust to the different tasks required by the job.
- Have the ability to work with a diverse volunteer staff.
- Must be able to lift and move boxes/merchandise up to 20 pounds.
- Ability to work on your feet for 7 to 8 hours.
