Job Summary:

We are seeking an enthusiastic and customer-focused Assistant Department Manager – Gift Shop to support the daily operations of our vibrant retail space. In this role, you will work closely with the Gift Shop Manager to oversee team performance, enhance the shopping experience, manage inventory, and ensure attractive product displays. Candidates must have prior retail management experience to be considered.

Key Responsibilities:

Sales Floor Supervision Assist with opening and closing procedures, including cash handling and reconciliation Ensure the sales floor is clean, organized, and visually appealing Deliver outstanding customer service and promptly resolve guest issues Team Leadership Train and coach sales associates and cashiers on retail operations and customer service standards Offer regular performance feedback to promote growth and development Motivate staff to achieve sales goals and maintain high engagement Inventory Management Assist with merchandise receiving, restocking, and tracking inventory levels Maintain accurate inventory records and suggest reorders as necessary Support loss prevention strategies and ensure proper stock rotation Visual Merchandising Collaborate on the creation of eye-catching displays Ensure merchandise is accurately priced, tagged, and well-presented Maintain store organization and cleanliness Special Projects & Events Support seasonal promotions and special events Help plan and implement themed displays and gift shop exhibits

Qualifications:

REQUIRED

2+ years of experience in retail or gift shop management — this is mandatory for consideration •Strong customer service and team leadership skills Excellent verbal and written communication Ability to lift up to 25 lbs and stand for extended periods Basic computer skills; experience with POS systems (Epicor a plus) Strong organizational and multitasking abilities Availability for a flexible schedule including weekends and holidays

Preferred:

Prior assistant management or department-level supervisory experience Familiarity with visual merchandising principles Experience with retail inventory management

Work Environment:

This role is based in a retail gift shop setting in Clinton/Oak Ridge, TN. The position involves prolonged periods of standing and walking, along with occasional lifting, bending, and reaching.
