Pruett’s Market is hiring for a Meat Department Manager to run our fresh department and make meat buying a personal experience for our valued customers in our community . Our meat department specializes in affordable high- end meats and seafood; dry-aged beef; local meats. We also showcase house- made and ground products such as local beef, handmade sausages, crab cakes and other popular items, all with top-notch customer service. The Meat Department manager provides overall leadership to the Meat and Seafood team and is responsible for daily operations of the department. This includes purchasing, merchandising, inventory, understanding and achieving profit margin, labor, controlling expenses, compliance with Health Department and food safety standards along with all other special projects as needed. The Manager is also responsible for all hiring, training and development of the team, which includes coaching, evaluations and mentoring. The Meat Department Manager job details include: Accountable for achieving sales, margin, purchases and labor targets. Must have a keen eye for merchandising the case and retail execution. Manages purchases and inventory to achieve designated profit margin. Responsible for scheduling within the department, time approvals and all necessary paperwork. Establishes and maintains productive working relationships with vendors, including reaching out to maximize deals and smart buying practices. Has a strong knowledge and awareness of competitors and trends within the industry. This includes understanding customer relations and needs in a unique environment. Encourages a positive work environment with focus on team morale, motivation and development. Makes hiring and separation decisions along with store management. Experience as a skilled meat cutter or meat cutter apprentice in all varieties and cuts of meat, pork, and poultry. Must be able to communicate with management and demonstrate strong problem-solving skills. Should have strong product knowledge and ability to share with customers and team members. Provides premier and courteous customer service, including greeting customers, answering their questions, offering meats cut to order as well as less expensive suggestions and cooking tips. This also includes a familiarity with a variety of cooking techniques to share with customers. Manager should also hold all other team members accountable for premier customer service. Must have strong communication skills and ability to work well with other departments. This includes working with other departments to minimize waste and maximize sales through transfers. Should have good time management skills and fully capable of multi-tasking duties on a daily basis. This includes being detail oriented, while working efficiently and proficiently in an independent role at times. Supports Pruett’s Market high standards for product guidelines in sanitation, freshness, trimming, and cutting. Must be able to stand for long periods of time and regularly lift up to 50 pounds. Demonstrates strong leadership and decision-making skills with the ability to delegate to others. Must be proficient mathematically for assessing financial performance and goals with the ability to effectively manage profitability and inventory. Advanced knowledge of all regulations, safety policies and procedures. Assists in other duties as assigned.
