As a Commercial Scrap Metal Buyer, you will be responsible for developing and maintaining relationships with industrial, commercial, demolition, and other dealer accounts to source a consistent and profitable stream of ferrous and non-ferrous scrap metal. This role is boots-on-the-ground—ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, field-based environment and understands the hustle of scrap buying. Identify, visit, and secure new scrap accounts, including industrial manufacturers, demolition contractors, other dealers and trade shops. Maintain regular contact with existing suppliers to build long-term relationships and ensure consistent volume. Evaluate scrap metal on-site and accurately identify material grades and contamination levels. Negotiate pricing with suppliers based on current market conditions and company guidelines. Coordinate logistics for pickup or drop-off of material with dispatch and scale personnel. Stay up to date with market pricing and trends to ensure competitive, profitable deals. Track all activity and customer interactions using CRM or company systems. Work closely with operations, logistics, and accounting teams to ensure seamless customer experience. Always representing the company professionally—this role is customer-facing and results-driven.
Competencies:
Experience in outside sales, preferably in metal recycling or a related industry. Exceptional communication, negotiation, and presentation skills, with the ability to build and maintain strong client relationships. A strategic mindset with the ability to analyze data and market trends to make informed decisions and drive sales success. Proficiency in CRM software (preferably Salesforce) and the Microsoft Office Suite. Willingness to travel regularly within the designated territory to meet with clients and prospects.
What We’re Looking For:
2-5 years of scrap metal buying or industrial B2B sales experience preferred. Strong knowledge of ferrous and non-ferrous metal grades and material values. Proven ability to close deals and hit volume targets. Self-motivated and entrepreneurial mindset. Ability to work independently in the field with minimal supervision. Valid driver’s license and clean driving record. Strong negotiation, communication, and relationship-building skills. Tech-savvy with the ability to use smartphones, CRM systems, and basic reporting tools.
