About the Department Extension at NC State University partners with communities to deliver education and technology that enrich North Carolinians’ lives, land, and the economy.
We focus on food and nutrition programming, and our Extension agents deliver evidence-based programming in nutrition, health, food safety, food preservation, and local foods. NC State is working to improve health equity in ten central and eastern NC counties. A primary goal for this project is to engage, leverage, and amplify community resources to implement evidence-based strategies for food and nutrition security through scaling and spreading produce prescription and fruit and vegetable voucher programs. Essential Job Duties The Produce Prescription Extension Associate will provide organization and programmatic oversight to scale nutrition access programs across the state (a produce prescription program and fruit and vegetable (FV) voucher incentive programs). The Extension Associate will also lead the communication efforts with community stakeholders. The Extension Associate must be organized and dependable and possess excellent communication skills. This position will be located in Raleigh, NC, with the option of a flexible work arrangement.
Oversee scaling NC State’s produce prescription and FV voucher incentive programs across the state, which includes, but is not limited to: Expanding the produce prescription and FV voucher incentive programs across the state while maintaining timely communication with the Principal Investigators (PIs), food hubs, clinical partners, FCS Agents, and other community stakeholders on all activities.
Establishing relationships with regional food hubs/banks and food producers in North Carolina.
Identifying and establishing partnerships with clinical partners throughout the state to provide referrals to the produce prescription program or FV voucher programs.
Identifying and establishing partnerships with existing FV voucher incentive programs across the state to increase voucher redemption (i.e., NC Farmers Market Network SNAP Double Up Bucks participants, NC WIC Farmers Market Nutrition participants, NC Medicaid Healthy Opportunities Pilot).
Help identify external funding sources to support produce prescription and FV voucher programming through grant writing, proposal development, and stakeholder presentations.
Train Extension agents, in areas related to FV voucher programs, produce prescription programs, and community-based nutrition access strategies in collaboration with Extension Specialists.
Review, summarize, and stay current on existing literature related to FV voucher programs, produce prescription programs, and community-based nutrition access strategies.
Oversee program delivery in non-HOP participating counties, ensuring that programs are taught as outlined in the curriculum, participants are recruited, required data is collected accurately, and program-specific budgets are adhered to.
Support all Institutional Review Board approvals through NC State University as needed.
Assist in the writing of manuscripts and presentations for professional dissemination at the regional, national, and international levels in accordance with grant activities. You Belong Here! Other Responsibilities Qualifications Minimum Education and Experience Earned master’s degree in nutrition, public health, or a closely related field.
At least five years of experience with health promotion programs or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Other Required Qualifications Work effectively and communicate as a team member in a collaborative environment.

Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
Experience working with a variety of culturally, linguistically, and socio-economically populations
Strong computer and Internet skills, including Microsoft Office and Google applications
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Access, and PowerPoint); Ability to design data-gathering instruments;
Ability to analyze data and draw conclusions;
Ability to make oral and written presentations on the analysis of a project; and
Ability to communicate with professional and administrative personnel.
Knowledge of:
Database structure and functions.
General methods and techniques of social research, planning, and evaluation.
Best practice strategies/methodologies to meet data management requirements.
Food environment landscapes and strategies to address food security.
Experience:
Managing large volumes of data.
Grant writing and proposal development.
Preparing, analyzing, and presenting data. Preferred Qualifications Doctoral degree in nutrition, public health, or a closely related field.
Registered Dietitian (or eligible for credentialing)
Demonstrated experience in project management is expected.
Experience working in grant writing and proposal development.
Effective oral and written communication skills for student lay, and professional audiences.
Evidence of excellent interpersonal skills, team building, problem-solving ability, networking skills, and ability to work with various groups. Required License(s) or Certification(s) n/a Valid NC Driver’s License required No
