The Department of Natural Sciences is seeking applicants for a full-time, 9-month, tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant/Associate professor in Biology, with a focus on Biotechnology. This position presents an exciting opportunity for a scholar whose research and teaching interests lie at the intersection of molecular biology, genetic engineering, bioinformatics, and applied sciences, contributing to a growing emphasis on biotechnological advancements and their real-world applications.
The candidate will teach upper division undergraduate lecture/laboratory courses
in Bioengineering, Molecular Biology and Biotechnology, as well as contribute to foundational courses and other courses as needed by the College of Science, Engineering, & Mathematics. These courses serve seven-degree programs including our B.S. in Biology, B.S. in Chemistry, and B.S. in Integrated Environmental Science. The successful applicant must be capable of and committed to effective teaching, program level assessment of student learning, and working with diverse populations.

Duties/Responsibilities:

The primary role of the successful candidate will be to provide exceptional teaching using modern pedagogical methods, experiential learning, and innovative techniques. The person will contribute to the department’s teaching mission through molecular biology, cell biology, bioengineering, biotechnology as well as fundamental aspects of biology. The candidate is expected to develop an externally funded research program that engages and trains undergraduate students in modem field and laboratory-based approaches in their area of expertise. Finally, the person will contribute to the University through service-oriented duties including serving on committees.

Required Skills/Abilities:

In addition to the requirements discussed above, in order to be a leading applicant in this search, the applicant must be fluent in the English language, be able to communicate effectively to a diverse student population, be experienced in program-level assessment of student learning and the effective use of innovative curricular approaches that are student-centered, inquiry-based, and hands-on oriented, and be familiar with learning management systems (ex. Canvas, Moodle, etc.). The candidate must also be able to demonstrate outstanding potential for excellence in teaching through a successful interview and /or classroom demonstration.

Education and Experience:

A minimum of a master’s degree in a relevant Biological Science is required, but a Ph.D. is desirable.
