Job Description
Associate Scientist International Flavors and Fragrances United States, York, York 521 West 57th Street (Show on map) Jun 17, 2025 Job Summary Conduct laboratory work for G2M/proactive or analytical projects under the direction of more senior technical leaders; contribute to technical project teams, providing data, & lab support in the area of G2M/proactive or analytical; develop technical information to support project decision-making and for use in customer presentations in order to highlight IFF product advantages.
Responsibilities:
Support technical role working on strategic or G2M projects – give input on results & findings
Manage work assignments from senior technical staff
Understand the connections between the different functions (R D, Sales, Perfumery, SDM’s, etc.) & interact with them in order to complete project tasks on time
Execute the relevant parts of the project within the given timelines
Develop a good understanding of the project management process
Design experiments & develop methods with minimal supervision
Develop a good understanding of experimental design principles
Participate in department brainstorming sessions
With supervision, apply new methodologies to prove concepts are working
Suggest ways to improve current processes or methodologies to reduce time, cost, or increase performance
Stability Evaluator Role(if required): conduct formal stability studies following established process & protocol and provide timely documentation &conclusions of completed stability studies
Develop familiarity with industry media sources to enhance knowledge of future trends(e.g., Happi, Cosmetics & Toiletries)
Write up all laboratory notes in IFF knowledge management tools in a clear & concise way to be readily understood by all that have access
Assist in writing reports to be used in presentations & stored in IFF knowledge management tools with the correct search fields added
Assist in writing/developing new protocols for new applications
Become proficient in all laboratory procedures, processes, & protocols (e.g., capsule making, evaluation set up, sample making, viscosity measurements)
Consult with supervisor on which ST&I disciplines to focus on for training & development
Understand how to conduct simple patent searches
Become familiar with technical developments by reading scientific literature & patents
Support competitor IP analysis by carrying out assigned experiments & summarizing results
Reconstruct the competitor experimentation or testing where needed
Assist in writing sections of invention disclosure where involved in the experimentation or testing.
Support collaborative work from third parties on developing methodology to achieve joint objectives where applicable
Assist in preparing the results & findings with third party
Develop an understanding of the main base components used in leading market benchmark products per relevant category & application
Learn about all available CI tools & how to select ones most relevant to the objectives of a test or project
Become familiar with consumer unmet needs in the relevant categories & applications
Write a Personal Development Plan with manager that ensures the ability to meet the current job role requirements but gives the required ability to achieve the next level when appropriate
Develop a network of IFF staff that can help achieve the required capabilities
Utilize internal training tools to enhance both soft skills & technical knowledge
Requirements:
Required Experience:
Minimum 1 – 2 years’ working experience in the industrial food, pharmaceutical, chemical, cosmetic, consumer goods, &/or fragrance industry
Knowledgeable in lab safety, relevant application, raw materials & chemical processes
Training/Certifications:
Essential:
BS degree in Science & Technology, Chemistry or related discipline
Preferred:
