What You’ll Do… As a Biological Technician supporting one of our contracts with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), you’ll play a vital role in the daily operations of a BSL-2 laboratory. This position requires a highly reliable, detail-oriented individual with hands-on experience in laboratory settings, particularly in biological specimen handling and inventory management. You’ll contribute directly to the scientific mission by providing critical technical and logistical support that ensures laboratory efficiency and compliance.
Key Responsibilities & Expected Outcomes Egg Embryology :
Receive, incubate, maintain, and deliver embryonated chicken eggs. Ensure compliance with standard operating procedures, maintain accurate records of materials used, and prevent hatching.
Laboratory Support :
Maintain reagent inventories including stock solutions and aliquots for use in BSL-2 laboratories. Ensure lab readiness and safety protocols are followed.
Specimen Logistics :
Prepare and coordinate shipment of biological specimens and reagents, including hazardous or time-sensitive materials. Ensure accuracy in labeling and documentation.
Operational Documentation :
Perform general laboratory duties such as recordkeeping, inventory management, QA/QC documentation, and support of lab safety programs.
Property Support :
Assist with property inventory, procurement, invoice review, equipment tracking, and coordination of deliveries, returns, and special projects. Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities for Success Demonstrates a dedication to upholding and enhancing STI Federal’s core values. Applies knowledge of BSL-2 laboratory safety protocols, including proper use of PPE and decontamination procedures. Utilizes laboratory inventory management systems to track reagents, supplies, and materials. Follows standard operating procedures and regulatory requirements in all lab and shipping activities. Prepares and ships biological specimens, including hazardous or time-sensitive materials, in compliance with relevant guidelines. Maintains strong attention to detail and organizational skills in support of inventory, documentation, and logistics. Communicates effectively with internal teams and external partners, both in writing and verbally. Manages recurring laboratory tasks independently and reliably. Maintains accurate records in compliance-driven environments to support QA/QC and audit readiness. Demonstrates proficiency in biological specimen handling, safe lab practices, Microsoft Office, and logistics coordination tools. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Laboratory Science, or a related field. At least 1 year of hands-on laboratory experience in an academic, clinical, or government lab setting. Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance. Preferred Qualifications Additional coursework or training in microbiology, embryology, or laboratory logistics. Familiarity with egg embryology or prior work in a BSL-2 laboratory environment.
Compensation & Work Environment Salary Range:
$65,000 – $80,000, dependent on experience.
