This temporary position is located in Manteo, NC – Dare County.
Job Order Hourly Rate of Pay:
$18.00 (Based on education and/or years of relevant work experience reflected on the application). This temporary position will be assigned to the Department of Environmental Quality. This position is located at 1021 Driftwood Dr, Manteo, NC 27954, This Marine Fisheries Technician II – will serve as a technician to the principal biologist on a long line survey for adult red drum in Pamlico Sound. Sampling for this fishery-independent survey occurs in the lower Pamlico Sound in the Outer Banks, North Carolina. The technician will be responsible for coordinating and conducting field sampling and data collection for the adult red drum long line survey as well as other various sampling programs. Other sampling programs include, but not limited to, seine surveys, gill net surveys, water quality monitoring, finfish tagging, and acoustic telemetry. The technician will be required to operate and trailer vessels up to 27 feet in length. The technician will be responsible for boat, trailer, and gear maintenance and construction. Technical responsibilities include recording, coding, and verifying data associated with the long line survey. Normal work hours will vary, but late evenings, early mornings, and overnight travel are required. Occasional work on weekends may be required. A valid driver’s license is required. The job requires the ability to swim, to lift heavy samples of fish (up to 60 pounds), and to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
