The Wisconsin DNR is hiring an LTE (Limited Term Employee) – Wildlife Technician, in Berlin, WI.

Position Summary
This position is responsible for a broad range of entry level technical support for the wildlife management program under the guidance of a Wildlife Biologist or Wildlife Technician – Advanced. Work duties include assisting with priority habitat management activities, maintenance of DNR equipment and facilities, and assisting with wildlife surveys.
40% Assist with implementation of priority habitat management activities. Includes, but is not limited to: operation of equipment, managing water control structures and supporting infrastructure, application of herbicide, and participation in prescribed fire habitat preparation.
30% Maintain DNR equipment and facilities. Perform routine maintenance of equipment, signage, and structures.
20% Wildlife surveys and banding migratory game birds. This work includes site preparations, baiting, trapping, and banding live birds. 10% General program support as needed, including completion of monthly reports and maintaining accurate records.
Salary Information
This position pays $16.32 per hour and is in pay schedule and range 06-12. Compensation will be set in accordance with the State Compensation Plan. Job Details
This is a Limited Term Employment (LTE) position and will not automatically lead to permanent state employment or be entitled to the same benefits as permanent employees.

To be considered for this position, you must be a resident of the State of Wisconsin.
A Wisconsin resident is a person who:
a. Has established a residence, as defined in s. 6.10(1), in this state not less than 10 days earlier; b. Has resided in this state for not less than a total of one year out of the immediately preceding 5 years; c. Is eligible to register to vote in this state; or d. Is the spouse of a person meeting the requirements of par. (a), (b), or (c).” s.230.03(12), Wis. Stats.

Qualifications
In addition to the required qualifications below, the selected candidate must be eligible to drive a state vehicle and meet the following criteria:
Have a valid driver’s license
Be at least 18 years of age
Have a minimum of two years licensed driving experience
Have not had three (3) or more moving violations and/or at-fault accidents in the past two (2) years
Have no OWI/DUI violations within the past year
Minimally qualified applicants will have:
Ability to work irregular shifts including early mornings, evenings, and weekends. Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs. Knowledge or experience in wildlife management or a related field. In addition, well qualified candidates will have: Experience with equipment and facility maintenance.
Experience operating equipment relevant to the position’s duties (ex. agricultural tractor, skidsteer, chainsaw, ATV)
Experience or knowledge with habitat management techniques (ex. grassland, wetland)
