POSITION SUMMARY
Provide quality instruction and materials and equipment preparation as support for student learning in a Biology laboratory setting. Courses may be scheduled during the day or evening, taught in a variety of formats and terms (15 and 7-weeks) and at several different locations, including off-campus sites and local high schools. The Teaching Technician is expected to facilitate the instructional process, evaluate students, monitor and communicate progress to students and to the appropriate college staff members, provide out-of-class academic assistance to students, utilize the Learning Management System (LMS) and appropriate online educational systems, maintain attendance and grade records, work to retain students, maintain required classroom, office and laboratory preparation hours, prepare and maintain lab supplies, equipment, and facility.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Teaching Excellence and Program Innovation Serve as a member of the Science Department within the Math and Sciences Division for the Teaching Excellence strategic theme of the College’s Strategic Plan. In this role, the staff member is responsible for the following:
Course and Curriculum Development:
Use current technology to prepare and teach laboratory materials, face to face, hybrid, virtual, or online as needed
With colleagues, revise courses and curricula, develop and/or select instructional materials
Prepare tests, projects, labs, and other forms of student evaluation materials
Consult with department faculty concerning the coordination of lecture/lab activities with learning outcomes
Professional Growth:
Remain current within the field of assigned instruction, related occupational areas and technologies Acquire, maintain, and apply knowledge of current instructional methodologies and materials Attend scheduled college, divisional, and departmental professional development and in-service activities, and participate in the annual faculty evaluation process
Support related professional organizations by attending meetings and/or serving as an officer Service to
Students:
Prepare materials and equipment for hands-on use by students in lab
Demonstrate student use of laboratory equipment
Supervise student workers
Respect the rights of students and access to educational opportunities Assist in recruitment, selection, orientation, and evaluation of potential students Support student activities Service to the
College and Community:
Prepare and maintain lab supplies, equipment, and facility
Participate in accreditation, assessment, and performance funding processes
Support and participate in college/division/department committees, organizations, and/or task force groups to make recommendations in the College’s decision-making processes
Provide input into preparation of semester schedules and departmental budgets
Participate in college programs
Develop and maintain cooperative relationships with colleagues
Strengthen relationships between the college and the community through community outreach activities
Attend required college, division, and department meetings Holistic Student Support Understands the range of College services that support students, such as Enrollment Services, Advising, Career Services, Tutoring, Student Life, and Accessibility Services.
Ensures these services are accessible and responsive to diverse student needs.

QUALIFICATIONS
An earned Bachelor’s degree with 30 semester hours in Biology, Clinical Lab Science, or related field from a regionally accredited institution.
Preferred Qualifications:
Lab preparation experience, including preparing and maintaining media and bacterial cultures; experience using and maintaining microscopes and autoclaves; laboratory teaching experience in Biology or related field; inventory and ordering experience; clinical lab employment experience.
