We have an opportunity in our Glastonbury, Connecticut office for a well-rounded Staff Ecologist. The successful candidate will conduct project work in the ecological and natural resources field and be cross trained to conduct Phase I and II environmental site assessments including report preparation. The successful candidate will be familiar with wetland delineation methodologies, have a familiarity with natural communities of the northeast, be able to successfully identify flora and fauna, and have an interest in associated work, such as contributing to completing documents, correspondence, and permit applications. This position will include field work, travel, and overnight stays. Essential Responsibilities & Duties Assist with wetland delineations, scientific inventories, natural resource assessments, vegetation monitoring, and protected species surveys. Collect field data, analyze data, and prepare technical reports. Interpret maps and aerial photography and perform field mapping of natural resource features. Collect information to perform Phase I/II Environmental Site Assessments. Tabulate and evaluate ecological, natural resources, and environmental data. Oversee subcontractors (e.g., surveyors, drillers, laboratory vendors). Perform approximately 50% or more of annual working hours in the field including occasional overnight stays. Minimum Qualifications 2 to 5 years of related wetland or natural resource experience. Bachelor’s Degree in Life Sciences (Ecology, Wildlife Biology, Environmental Science, Botany, General Biology, Forestry). Coursework and/or experience in geology, hydrogeology, and/or soil science a plus. Familiar with wetlands and wetland delineation methodologies and identifying common flora of the northeast; survey methods for conducting avian and botanical surveys; and aquatic settings, including shoreline restoration (living shoreline). Strong interpersonal communication and writing skills, including attention to detail, and experience with technical, scientific report preparation. Focused on health and safety. Able to work in adverse weather and site conditions, including hiking and working in rugged terrain. Demonstrated effective time management and follow-through, with the ability to simultaneously work on multiple tasks/projects and meet project deadlines. Advanced working knowledge of statistical software R, GIS or similar drawing software, and Microsoft Office, including Power BI. Valid U.S. driver’s license. We are GEI.
