JOB DESCRIPTION
Research Focus
Our laboratory studies how human intestinal epithelial cells detect and respond to enteric viral infections (rotavirus, norovirus, astrovirus, reovirus).
We are particularly interested in:
- Characterizing qualitative and quantitative differences in innate immune responses across diverse intestinal epithelial cell types (enterocytes, goblet cells, Paneth cells, stem cells) and diverse sections of the human gut (duodenum, jejunum, ileum, and colon)
- Investigating how epithelial cell polarity (apical-basolateral organization) affects viral infection and cellular responses
- Understanding the impact of the gut’s unique low-oxygen environment (hypoxia) on infection outcomes Methodological Expertise
Our laboratory has established expertise in: - Live-cell fluorescence microscopy
- Enteroid and organoid culture model systems to study viral infection
- Single-cell sequencing technologies Research Environment

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
PhD in molecular biology, infectious disease, biology, or related fields, Strong background in cell culture techniques, Experience in molecular biology methods (cloning, Western blotting, qRT-PCR, CRISPR-Cas9), Demonstrated independent and critical thinking abilities, and Excellent communication skills.
PREFERRED
- Prior research experience in virology
- Experience working with polarized epithelial cells
- Background in organoid culture systems
