We’re seeking an Embryologist who willsupport Emory Healthcare’s mission of clinical care, education, andresearch by demonstrating the core values of excellence, caring,and integrity.
This individual:
Performs all the complex laboratoryprocedures required for an in-vitro fertilization (IVF) cycleincluding sperm testing and preparation, related hormone testing,identification and evaluation of human oocytes in follicular fluid,assessment and viability of recently fertilized oocytes,microinjection techniques such as intracytoplasmic sperm injection(ICSI), assisted hatching manually or with laser, embryo biopsy forpreimplantation genetic testing (PGT), appropriate culturing ofcleaved embryos and blastocysts, embryo grading and selection ofhuman embryos for transfer, oocyte/embryo/sperm cryopreservation,storage and thawing. Conducts lab tests related to IVF treatmentincluding semen analysis, and hormone tests. Conducts spermpreparation to remove dead sperm and purify samples, meetingqualitative goals as measured by successful inseminations Performsegg retrievals and cumulus removal, meeting established goals foraverage numbers of eggs retrieved. Performs conventional and ICSIinseminations, meeting established percentage goals forfertilization. Completes fertilization checks for conventionalinsemination and ICSI, meeting numerical targets for the maximumnumber of mature eggs fertilized and placed in culture.
Successfully performs embryo grading to select embryos fortransfer, meeting goals established by Lab Director, includingpassing proficiency testing twice per year. Successfully performsembryo warming and transfers, measured by the pregnancy rate pertransfer. Proficiency is measured by the percentage of recoveredembryos and survival of warmed embryos. Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor of Science in biology, chemistry,reproductive Biology, medical technology, or Animal Science from anaccredited institution. Meet state specific certification/licensurerequirements, if applicable. A minimum of 2 years work experiencein an IVF lab is required. Successfully completed a minimum of 30documented supervised procedures (30 of each type of procedure) isrequired. Successfully completed a minimum of 20 documentedindependent procedures is preferred. Must have working knowledge ofhealthcare regulatory and compliance policy (i.e., HIPAA). Must beable to handle multiple, simultaneous tasks effectively andefficiently while maintaining a professional, courteous manner.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal,particularly around complex issues. High integrity, includingmaintenance of confidential information. Must be able to exercisegood judgment and positively influence others, including handlingconfrontations with poise and efficiency. Advanced computer skills(including, but not limited to spreadsheets, word documents,Internet, and email). Experience with MS, Word, Excel, and abilityto learning new computer programs. Shows initiative and enjoysworking as a team in a fast-paced environment with strong attentionto details.
