Description Essential Functions:
The postdoctoral fellow will conduct and oversee research studies and make intellectual contributions to the scientific research of the lab which focuses on characterizing the pathogenesis of viral hemorrhagic fevers. In collaboration with the PI, the fellow will make decisions that may alter research objectives and direction of the lab.
Essential Duties:
The Postdoctoral Fellow will perform experiments in several fields including but not limited to molecular viology, genomics, transcriptomics, animal work, immunology, and pathophysiology. These experiments aim to characterize the interactions between viral agents and animal models. Minimal requirements include familiarity with molecular virology techniques including cloning, reverse genetics systems for RNA viruses as well as classical virology assays including plaques assays, TCIDs50s and PRNTs.
Other duties:
Responsibilities include hands-on laboratory animal work such as viral challenge, blood collection and necropsy. Other responsibilities include routine laboratory organization, maintenance and control of laboratory inventory, purchasing various items, reading assignments of relevant literature, and ensuring all lab members comply with the mandatory training. Qualifications
Minimum qualifications include a doctoral degree from an accredited institution in biology, biochemistry, molecular biology, physiology or a related discipline and training within a selected area of specialization.
Strong/recent basic research lab experience in molecular and cellular biology, biochemistry, and animal physiology.
Preferred Qualifications
Proven extensive experience of working with rodents.
Strong publication record. A background in immunology and/or atherosclerosis is highly preferred but not required.
