To provide competitive, independent, investigative research and product development in: crop production; crop protection; food quality; environmental preservation, product stewardship, genetics and seeds.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Participate as a team member in the designated field station programs which consist of laboratory, greenhouse, and field trials including understanding field protocols and working with customers to ensure proper communication, excellence in quality, and on-time delivery of project deadlines. Assist the Associate and/or Research Biologist in performing all tasks required for each research trial, including site selection, planting of test crops, calibration of spray equipment, making pesticide and fertilizer applications, collecting crop and soil samples, and conducting evaluations of crops and pests. Understand the Good Laboratory Practices (“GLP”) standards and how they apply to diverse types of regulated studies. Be accountable for following GLP standards, Standard Operating Procedures (“SOP”)’s, and methods to ensure that the data is precise and accurate. Clearly document all research activity both on the computer and paper notebooks. Monitor each GLP study to ensure the integrity of the study and determine that no deviations from approved protocols or SOPs were made without proper authorization and documentation. Perform as Principal Investigator (“PI”) by ensuring all PI responsibilities are conducted in a manner that includes preparing the study notebook and collecting all required data; keeping the Study Director up to date on all pertinent developments in the planning and conduct of the study; interpreting statistics and evaluating studies for regulatory acceptance; preparing reports as well as draft study protocols and draft study reports. Partner with other disciplines such as Plant Pathology, Weed Science, Plant Growth Regulators, and Non-Target Arthropods/Pollinators.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree in an appropriate field, and a minimum of 2 years’ experience in agricultural sciences. Knowledge of plant protection, plant pathology, weed science, pesticide residue, agronomy, and seed /traits is highly preferred. Master’s degree with two (2) or more years’ experience and/or Bachelor’s degree with five (5) or more years’ experience. Proficiency with complex analysis; report writing; principal investigator and study director duties and responsibilities; statistical analysis and interpretation of data; customer services skills required. Proficient computer skills with most current spreadsheet, database and word processing applications needed. Able to read, write, and communicate in English fluently, or with necessary assistance, ONLY while performing the job duties which require this ability. o Mission and Values Driven – Clearly understand the mission and values of SynTech Research to ensure all work performance aligns to the mission and values. Physical Demands:
• Ability to read computer screens, e-mail and mail, talk on the phone. Specific vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, depth perceptions, and the ability to adjust focus. Able to work in a highly regulated, high pace environment. Capable of wearing a respirator. Must be able to walk, stand 50% to 80% of the time, squat, bend, kneel, climb, push, pull, use hands; reach with hands and arms overhead; speak and hear effectively in team and/or one-on-one conversations. Must be able to climb ladders, lift/move greater than or equal to fifty (50) to sixty (60) pounds with proper ergonomics and use of assistance as needed (e.g., carts, pallet jack, tractors, etc…)
For Terrestrial:
Must be able to work outdoors in extreme conditions and at times perform strenuous labor including construction of test systems, field maintenance and working with bees.
Work Environment:
Interaction with employees and visitors. All day (more than 8 hours) exposure to heat, sun, dust, and all-weather conditions associated with outdoor, field research work.
