Job Description We are seeking ahighly-skilled and well-established structural biology leader tojoin the Global Structural Biology organization at Takeda. A strongcandidate will possess an extensive background in the field ofstructural biology in pharmaceutical industry settings and will usethis expertise to lead Takeda’s structural biology efforts withinNeuroscience, Oncology and Gastrointestinal and Immunology drugdiscovery programs for all modalities (small molecules, biologicsand cell therapies). A successful candidate will lead an internalteam of structural biologists and work closely with the Global Headof Structural Biology and Automation to manage and enhance internalcapabilities in crystallography and cryoEM, contribute tocomputational capabilities and engage with external partners todrive the pipeline.
Candidates should be able to:
Lead and managean internal team of structural biologists to oversee design,execution and interpretations of structural biology experiments(crystallography and cryoEM) using both internal and externalcapabilities for all modalities (small molecules, biologics andcell therapies) Collaborate extensively with cross-functional teamsand internal partners (including teams within Global Biologics,Global Chemistry, Computational Science and Data Strategy andtherapeutic areas) to advance drug discovery projects Assist in thestrategy and management of external CRO capabilities and internalcrystallography and cryoEM laboratories Mentor and develop talentwithin the Global Structural Biology organization Candidates shouldhave the following qualifications: Ph.D. in Structural Biology,Protein Production, Biophysics, Computational Chemistry or relatedfield with 15 years of relevant experience in pharmaceutical orbiotechnology industry; demonstrated track record of supportinghigh-quality structure determination and validation of proteinco-complexes to rapidly advance drug discovery pipelines as well asincreasing scientific and people management responsibilities Deepand diverse knowledge in multiple areas of structural biology,including X-ray crystallography and cryoEM, using internal andexternal (CRO) resources; well-versed in data processing andrefinement software for structure determination and analysis;experience supporting small molecule and biologics drug discoveryprograms highly desirable Excellent leadership, communication andinterpersonal skills, with the ability to lead both teams andprojects; effective collaboration across disciplines essential.
Extensive knowledge of and experience in protein productionincluding construct design/protein engineering, protein expressionsystems (bacterial, insect, mammalian systems), proteinpurification techniques and protein characterization methods;proficiency in biophysical techniques (SPR, ITC, DLS, etc) andexperience in membrane protein production and structuredetermination highly desirable Passion for learning and advancingstructural biology capabilities and drug discovery pipelines,including proactive investigation of new techniques andcapabilities, advanced software and hardware/cloud capabilities andinnovative experimental approaches, including AI/ML-drivenapproaches Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced,matrixed environment with a collaborative and proactive mindset,motivated by a desire to create therapeutic molecules for thebenefit of patients in need worldwide Takeda Compensation andBenefits Summary We understand compensation is an important factoras you consider the next step in your career. Base Salary Range:
$174,500.00 – $274,230.00 The estimated salaryrange reflects an anticipated range for this position. The actualbase salary offered may depend on a variety of factors, includingthe qualifications of the individual applicant for the position,years of relevant experience, specific and unique skills, level ofeducation attained, certifications or other professional licensesheld, and the location in which the applicant lives and/or fromwhich they will be performing the job.
The actual base salaryoffered will be in accordance with state or local minimum wagerequirements for the job location. U.S. based employees may beeligible for short-term and/or long-termincentives. U.S.basedemployees may be eligible to participate in medical, dental, visioninsurance, a 401(k) plan and company match, short-term andlong-term disability coverage, basic life insurance, a tuitionreimbursement program, paid volunteer time off, company holidays,and well-being benefits, among others.
