About the Agency
The mission of the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks is to conserve and enhance Mississippi’s wildlife, fisheries, and parks, provide quality outdoor recreation, and engage the public in natural resource conservation.
About the Position
The purpose of this position is to aid in Mississippi’s natural resource conservation through mapping, investigating and responding to environmental review requests, management of the Mississippi Natural Heritage Program’s database, and assisting in field work with other biologists as needed. This position is based at the Mississippi Museum of Natural Science, a bureau of the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks.
What you’ll need to be Successful
Knowledge of Mississippi “Species of Greatest Conservation Need (SGCN) as outlined in the MS State Wildlife Action Plan (SWAP). General knowledge of various computer database programs and languages such as Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Access, Java SQL, and ArcMap GIS. Ability to perform fieldwork under adverse working conditions (e.g., hot, humid and cold, wet weather, biting insects, walking streams through thick vegetation, etc.).
