We are seeking a Physician Scientist to join our Neuroscienceand Ophthalmology Therapeutic Area Genetics (TAG) team. We see thisrole as a subject matter authority in the translation of humangenetic evidence into actionable insights in neurological,psychiatric, ophthalmological, and aging-related diseases. You willwork closely with other teams in the Regeneron Genetics Center andRegeneron at large and be primarily responsible for designing,contributing to the execution of, and interpreting large andcomplex human genetic studies in the therapeutic areas. We hope youare excited by the opportunity to play a role in the developmentand implementation of innovative translational sciences andidentify new therapeutic targets through genetic approaches. As aPhysician Scientist in Neurology/Ophthalmology, a typical day mightinclude the following: Applying human genetics to target discovery,selecting indications for drug programs, and identifying subgroupsof patients who are more likely to respond to treatment throughgenetic analyses. Working with a multidisciplinary genetics teamconsisting of human genetics scientists, bioinformaticians,statistical geneticists, and other team members to design, execute,and interpret genetics studies in ophthalmology. Working in closecollaboration with other Therapeutic Area Genetics team members andforming a strong partnership with Genome Informatics, AnalyticalGenomics, Clinical Informatics, and other RGC teams to deliver oncomplex, top-quality scientific endeavors in these TherapeuticAreas. Generating, summarizing, and presenting results in internaland external meetings to a variety of audiences. Leading orcontributing to the writing of scientific reports and publications.
Representing the TAG team in cross-functional initiatives withinRGC and Regeneron. Collaborating with external industry andacademic partners in scientific consortia. This job may be for youif: You have demonstrated the ability to design and lead humangenetics studies delivering medically relevant findings in ateam-based environment. You use medical knowledge to definerelevant phenotypes for genetic association studies and toformulate innovative and important research questions. You havefamiliarity with clinical genetics concepts and various geneticmodels of disease. You have experience leading complex humangenetics research endeavors, have knowledge of different studydesigns and analyses including GWAS, exome, or genome sequencing incohort, case-control, or family-based studies, and have the abilityto integrate different data resources to translate initialfindings. You have an interest in understanding the genetic basisand causes of Neurological, Psychiatric, Ophthalmological, andAging-related diseases and translating this knowledge intotherapeutic insights. An outstanding candidate will have previousexperience with phenotypes related to these diseases. You thriveworking in a highly interactive environment with a diverse team ofcolleagues. You have outstanding communication skills and anability to summarize and present the results of human geneticstudies to a variety of audiences. To be considered for thisopportunity, you must have an MD or MD/Ph.D. with a strongbackground in and knowledge of human genetics or geneticepidemiology. An outstanding candidate will be an MD/Ph.D. withtraining and experience in translational human genetics, geneticepidemiology (or related disciplines), and strong quantitativeskills. Familiarity with the applications of statistical geneticsto gain medically actionable insights including polygenic riskscores, quantitative traits analyses, and Mendelian randomization,and familiarity with command-line interface, programming languages,and statistical software (eg. Python, R) is preferred. Theoutstanding candidate will have experience with the use of geneticsin combination with other omics technologies (eg. epigenetics,proteomics, RNA-seq).
