The Dr. Charles P. Darby, Jr. Department of Pediatrics at theMedical University of South Carolina (MUSC), located in beautifuldowntown Charleston, South Carolina, is accepting applications atthe Associate Professor or Professor level to serve as the DivisionChief to the Division of Neonatology. Excellent candidates may beeligible for the Jean and George W. Brumley Endowed Chair.

TheDivision of Neonatology at MUSC serves as the Level III PerinatalRegionalization Center for southeastern South Carolina and is theonly Level IV Center in the state. The program is ranked as a topNeonatology program by US News and World Report. The Divisioncurrently has 13 faculty, approximately 30 APPs, and 9 neonatologyfellows. In addition to the Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine fellowship,MUSC has the only Maternal-Fetal Medicine fellowship in SouthCarolina. The David and Laura Stone Neonatal Intensive Care Unitcomprises the entire 5th floor of the MUSC Shawn Jenkins Children sHospital. Opened in 2020, it consists of 82 beds including singlepatient, mother-baby couplet care, and extracorporeal membraneoxygenation rooms as well as a minor procedure room with fullanesthesiology readiness. Each year approximately 2,700 newbornsare delivered at the Medical University of South Carolina, and anadditional 12,000 babies are born within our referral area. Thesedeliveries generate approximately 1,000 admissions to our intensivecare nurseries. Neonatal transports account for 40 percent of thetotal admissions to our NICU with free-standing transport teamsable to provide ground, helicopter, and fixed wing transport. Wecollaborate with all pediatric subspecialties as well as pediatricsurgery and pediatric surgical subspecialties.

The Division iscommitted to the provision of outstanding clinical care andcutting-edge research. Major areas of academic interest includeneonatal nutrition (clinical, translational, and bench research),neonatal kidney injury (translational and clinical research),neural injury (translational and bench research encompassingprevention through recovery), epidemiologic investigations, andresearch QI. Faculty have access to collaborations with benchresearchers in the Darby Children s Research Institute located oncampus, one block from the children s hospital. Additionally, thedivision has a history of collaboration with multiple pediatricspecialties, Maternal-Fetal Medicine, Obstetrics and Gynecology,and adult investigators.
