JOB DESCRIPTION
Senior Cytologists evaluate cellular samples for the presence of infectious processes, precancerous changes and invasive cancer, reporting out routine gynecologic samples, while rendering preliminary diagnoses on potentially abnormal gynecologic samples, all non-gynecologic samples and all fine needle aspirations. Cytologists assist with processing fine needle aspiration specimens for cytologic evaluation. They also assist with teaching students, residents, and fellows that rotate into the department of Cytopathology. Senior Cytologists are permitted by CLIA regulations to make the final determination on negative gynecological Quality Control specimens. Senior Cytologists may assist with processing fine needle aspiration specimens for cytologic evaluation. They assist with teaching students, residents, and fellows that rotate into the department of Cytopathology. They may also assist with training of new employees in conjunction with the Technical Specialist and Charge Cytologist.
EDUCATION
A Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university plus 12 months of training in a CAAHEP accredited school of cytotechnology, or equivalency qualification as specified by the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments law.
Certification:
Cytologist board certification by the American Society of Clinical pathologists, CT(ASCP).
EXPERIENCE
Minimum Experience:
3 years. Knowledge of basic and advanced cytopathology procedures and practices.
