Limited Term Length Job Summary The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry is search for a Lab Technician to manage and run the chemical stockroom that services all of the general chemistry teaching laboratories. Essential Functions 1.

Laboratory chemical preparations:

Prepare chemicals, stock solutions, and other materials for each lab course; follow safety regulations for chemical handling, labeling, and disposal.
2.

Laboratory room preparations:

Set up chemicals and equipment in each lab room ahead of scheduled lab sessions; switch chemicals and equipment as needed according to the lab schedule; ensure each room has the required paperwork, such as data sheets, procedures, checklists, etc.
3.

Laboratory cleaning and maintenance:

Clean/organize lab rooms and the stockroom on a regular basis; wash glassware; put away chemicals, glassware, and other lab equipment after completion of lab experiments at the end of each week; maintain lab equipment; check eye wash stations weekly.
4.

Inventory:

Make sure student lab drawers are stocked at the beginning of each semester (roughly 200 drawers); keep inventory of stock chemicals, glassware, and lab equipment.
5.

Waste management:

follow safety regulations for the labeling, storage, and disposal of hazardous waste.

Minimum Qualifications Minimum Qualifications Level I

  • high school diploma or equivalent and 0 years of experience Level II
  • high school diploma or equivalent and 1 year of experience in performing tests, and/or research in a lab setting. Level III
  • high school diploma or equivalent and 4 years of experience in performing tests, and/or research in a lab setting. Level IV
  • high school diploma or equivalent and 6 years of experience in performing tests, and/or research in a lab setting.

When a candidate has the required education, but lacks the required experience, they may normally apply additional appropriate education toward the experience requirement, at a rate of one year relevant education per year of required experience. Minimum Skills, License, and Certifications Minimum Skills and Abilities Candidates must have: knowledge and/or skill to perform a variety of tasks related to chemistry laboratory setup and maintenance; knowledge of lab safety rules and procedures; attention to detail; excellent organization skills; excellent written and interpersonal communication skills; ability to multitask.
