The Analyzer Technician at the Ascend Pensacola Site is responsible for maintaining a variety of process analytical systems used for live process analysis and regulatory compliance. Technicians work independently and as a team to perform daily maintenance and troubleshooting to achieve the goal of providing reliable and accurate analysis.
TARGETED OUTCOMES
Maintain online analytical instrumentation through preventative and corrective maintenance. Troubleshoot and repair issues that impair proper functionality of analytical systems. Provide the required support needed to resolve non-scheduled priority jobs during normal and after hours. Perform Root Cause Failure Analysis to discover and eliminate reoccurring failures. Identify spare parts needed to reduce or eliminate equipment down time. Recommend improvements to increase performance and reliability. Assist with updating and creating equipment specification sheets, equipment files, checklist and procedures. Train and mentor less experienced Analyzer Technicians. Provide support for capital improvements including scope development, factory acceptance testing, installation oversight, commissioning efforts and equipment start-up.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Perform the routine checks and maintenance required to ensure equipment functionality. Ensure work is carried out in accordance with the Ascend safe work permit and work practices. Work independently, demonstrate organizational skills, prioritize tasks, and complete assignments accurately and on time. Give inputs to gas cylinder program in area of responsibility. Develop, implement, and support continuous improvements to Process Analyzer Systems at the site. Investigate, identify, and resolve analyzer system failures. Maintain the documentation and drawings needed to support analyzer installations. Support Process Safety activities, such as MOCs, document updates, and required training. Assure compliance requirements for internal and external audits. Provide input for developing job plans, turnaround scope, and testing criteria. Participate in incident investigations associated with Process Analyzer Systems. Accountable for day-to-day technical support necessary to meet department and site Safety and Production goals and objectives. Willing and able to respond to off-hour emergencies to resolve critical equipment issues and support extended work hours during site outages and turnarounds.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE
Minimum of (5) consecutive years as a fully qualified I/E Technician, Electrician, Lab Technician or Process Operator. Associates or Technical Degree, formal apprentice program, or Military background in relevant technical fields, strong chemistry background is a plus.
REQUIRED SKILLS
Able to use computer applications (Excel, Microsoft Office, TEAMS) and practical knowledge of computer hardware. Demonstrated troubleshooting knowledge, maintenance repair experience, and capital project support (reviews, factory acceptance testing, installation inspections, and start-up support). Strong problem solver and self-starter Ability to perform troubleshooting and root cause analysis Strong written and verbal communication skills Demonstrated leadership, learning and development skills Ability to effectively interface with manufacturing, engineering and other functions including contractors Able to demonstrate the abilities to locate and understand P&ID’s, drawings, procedures and document control requirements. Basic understanding of analytical methodology practices Ability to climb to 70+ feet, lift containers weighing up to 50 pounds, and transport compressed gas cylinders weighing up to 250 pounds.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE
Three (3) plus years of experience in maintaining process analyzers, sample conditioning systems and communications architecture. Experience with on-line analyzers such as GC, IR, Mass Spec, Titration, CEMS, HRVOC, Oxygen, Water Quality, Gas Detection, etc., in a petrochemical facility. Experienced in process analyzer maintenance, project commissioning and start-up support. Demonstrate the ability to utilize the Process Historian trend data from online analyzers Experienced and able to demonstrate how routine and non-routine activities support process analyzer maintenance execution and reliability. Experienced and able to demonstrate Cylinder Gas Audits (CGA) requirements including documentation requirements.
PREFERRED SKILLS
Experienced in process gas and liquid applications and emissions monitoring (CEMS). Strong understanding of gas chromatography technology. Proficient using a data historian to trend and analyze data. Fundamental understanding of chemistry, spectroscopy and chromatography. Working knowledge of

Knowledge and understanding of regulatory/compliance issues and ESH policies, guidelines and procedures in a highly hazardous chemical company is a plus.
