Work Unit :
The Wan research laboratory in the department of Biochemistry at Vanderbilt University investigates the molecular mechanisms that drive viral life cycles in host cells. We do this by either infecting cells with live viruses, or for higher biosafety level viruses, using plasmid-based modelling systems; we then study these cells to obtain molecular insights into the host-pathogen interactions. The primary techniques used in the lab include molecular biology, molecular virology, live cell fluorescence microscopy, and cryo-electron tomography (cryo-ET). While our lab has a strong focus on methods development, we also incorporate a range of biochemical and biophysical approaches in pursuing our biological aims. The work unit is made up of faculty, research staff, postdoctoral fellows, and graduate students.
