Shreveport, LA PURPOSE:

The Chemist is responsible for performing testing utilizing laboratory equipment/instrumentation and communicating results to support the continuous operations of the Shreveport refinery. The Chemist maintains laboratory equipment and verifies instrument performance to ensure data being reported is accurate and reliable. The Chemist writes SOPs and mentors/trains hourly lab techs as needed.

KEY OBJECTIVES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Maintain knowledge of laboratory procedures and testing requirements Conduct and analyze specific tests on process streams and finished products Perform instrument performance verification at specified intervals to ensure data integrity Leads and supports the development and improvement of lab test methods and procedures Ensure all lab equipment is maintained and operational for use Works with service vendors to get instrumentation repaired as needed Works with lab supply vendors to keep the laboratory stocked with essential supplies Works with Lab Management and operations to ensure product quality issues are addressed as needed Capable of recording data as needed both manually and in the LIMS system Employs creativity and problem solving skills to support operations Ensures data integrity and cleanliness of the laboratory Work in a safe and timely manner to ensure accurate completion of all duties Other duties as assigned

REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCES

Bachelor’s Degree from a four-year College or University Solid understanding of analytical chemistry Proficiency with and maintains current knowledge of ASTM petroleum test methods Ability to lift and transfer contents of five-gallon (~forty pound) sample cans Ability to occasionally travel Good working knowledge of lab methods and procedures Proficient in Microsoft Office Package, including word processing, spreadsheets, database, presentation software, email and scheduling Experience and understanding of standardized and non-standardized test methods

PREFERRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCES

Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry 3 or more years of petroleum or chemical related experience and/or training Knowledge of lab methods and procedures in the petroleum industry
