Senior Scientist, Automated Sample Prep Waters Corporation United States, Massachusetts, Milford 34 Maple Street (Show on map) Jun 24, 2025 Senior Scientist, Automated Sample Prep Req. # 22938 Job Family RD – Research and Development Location US-MA-Milford Overview This position represents an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated scientist to be involved in the research and development of new sample preparation products for the quantification and characterization of small and large molecules focusing on LC-MS workflows. In this dynamic role, the candidate will become an integral part of an interdisciplinary development and applications group by taking on leadership roles in prototype evaluation, product testing and commercialization while also leading scientific publications. This position offers an excellent opportunity to grow both professionally and scientifically and to work collaboratively with project team members from other technical disciplines to enhance Waters’ position in a dynamic market. Responsibilities Develop novel sample preparation approaches and LC-MS workflows for quantifying small and large molecule pharmaceuticals
Be a lead investigator for the evaluation of prototype sample preparation materials and devices
Contribute to interdisciplinary development efforts by offering a detailed understanding of applications and method development. Provide feedback to other teams through hypothesis-driven proposals to improve upon state-of-the-art sample preparation technologies and assist engineering and material science groups on design of experiments and new prototypes.
Design and execute test strategies, prepare reports and provide internal presentations to summarize scientific findings
Champion innovations in SPE techniques, automation strategies and vials & plates to optimize current and future business delivery.
Operate and maintain LC and LC-MS systems and general lab equipment while creating and maintaining records of test related activities
Protect newly developed intellectual property by assisting in the preparation of invention disclosures and patent applications
Lead and carry out product development activities to ensure that new products are appropriately designed for their intended use
Work with marketing colleagues and other technical groups across Waters to define and successfully commercialize new products and to showcase them through publications and collaborations with thought leaders from academia and industry
Attend and present at conferences and keep abreast of literature to support product commercialization, aid in customer education, and identify emerging applications, methods and customer needs Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree in analytical chemistry or related discipline with 10+ years’ experience, master’s degree 5+ years’, or PhD in analytical chemistry or related discipline with 0-3+ years’
Experience in developing sample preparation and extraction techniques, including solid phase extraction, for assaying small and/or large molecules in biofluids, foods, and/or drug products using L-/MS
Well-developed oral and written communication skills
Proven track record of analyzing ability and learning agility
Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team environment.
Proficiency in various types of sample preparation and extraction techniques for large and small molecules including solid phase extraction.
Demonstrated ability to publish scientific results in peer-reviewed journals and to give presentations at leading conferences
Knowledge of multi-platform liquid handlers and robotics for sample processing desired
Ability to travel
