The role is based on-site in St. Louis, MO and travel to other US facilities will be required. The ideal candidate will be responsible for conducting scientific research and experiments to develop new products and improve existing ones. This role requires a strong background in analytical chemistry and proficiency in various laboratory techniques. The Research Chemist will play a crucial role in ensuring quality control and compliance with industry standards.
Key Requirements:
Support global project related to novel emulsification of resins to displace solvent-borne resin used in mica tape manufacture. Development of new adhesive formulations to gain access into structural adhesive market. Develop and provide lab support for launching of a novel unsaturated polyester emulsion resin. Perform polymer synthesis and other chemical and physical laboratory tests to develop and refine formulations to meet customers’ requirements. Research and conduct tests and experiments for new product development, technological transfer, plant support and assist process engineers in “scale up” processes. Document, analyze test data and report results. Provide technical support to customers in coordination with commercial representative. Propose changes to products and/or services that result in cost reductions and increased sales. Visit customers to gather information, diagnose product problems, and provide technical solutions. Respond to customer inquiries in a timely manner for information and complaints. Represent Company at Trade shows. Organize and implement testing of products for known or suspected problems. Participate in scale up and Design Review sessions as necessary. Meet with suppliers and maintains an intellectual interest in new materials relevant to value drivers in our markets. Communicates questions/problems to other internal groups, as appropriate. Develop personal skills and product knowledge to more effectively carry out assigned responsibilities. Monitor quality issues from input by sales/service, customers, and other external or internal sources. Provide technical support needed to assist the Commercial Group including customer visits when required. This includes providing samples, reports, and current information as necessary. Requires advanced technical knowledge of the products. Regularly report and review with management the status of the tasks and projects within areas of responsibility. Ensure commercial/technical alignment towards company strategies and growth objectives. Assist in the preparation of reports detailing technical problems to initiate necessary corrective product modifications and/or recommended manufacturing process changes. Assist in maintaining
ISO/TS 16949
2002 certification as required. Assist the organization to create a safe and healthy working environment by working safely, using equipment provided and following instructions given for health and safety purposes and immediately reporting any unsafe working practices or hazardous working conditions.
Metrics / Deliverables
Business growth with new and current product offerings with existing and new customers. Participation in industry-related forums to promote ELANTAS technology. Customer visits to support commercial objectives and growth. Measure of successful project completion vs requests received.
Education, Experience and Eligibility Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in related discipline (Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials or Polymer Science) At least 1 year of general and analytical chemistry lab experience. Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States and should not require sponsorship for employment visa status at any time.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Must have knowledge of both organic and polymer chemistry. Knowledge of ISO/TS requirements, 5S model, chemical hygiene, and best lab practices. Proven excellence with interpersonal communication skills. Excellent oral and written English communications skills, both written and verbal. Ability to work collaboratively with all relevant internal and external stakeholders in an international business environment. Driven, self-motivated individual. Be flexible, proactive and be self-disciplined. Sensitive to cultural differences. Good interpersonal skills and result orientation. Ability to perform multiple tasks at any given time. Ability to demonstrate and foster safe working behavior in the team.
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to drive a car and fly on a plane, including overnight travel. Requires tolerance of standing posture up to (4 hr.) continuously, for a total of up to (7 hr.) per (8 hr.). Must be able to see, speak and read in English. Must tolerate working environment with inside ambient and outdoor temperatures. Requires (Near/Far/Depth/Color) vision to utilize equipment and material. Must walk to various areas of the plant. Requires walking up to (2 mi.), in (8 hr.).
Work Environment:
Approximately 5%-15% travel required. Must be able to work with company policies, guidelines, procedures, systems, processes and tools.
